Feed the Machine Lyrics
And you'll never disappoint them
Hide your innocence before they see right through
... you mustn't disappoint them
You need the danger just to feel your heart beat
You need to die just to find your?...

#1 top rated interpretation:Seeing as the theme of the album is finding your identity, the song is probably connected to that. This song is about how people try to fit in with the crowd and the effects it has on their psyche. When he says "Hide your innocence before they see right through" he is talking about things people do just to fit even though they know it's wrong. The first four lines that begin with "You need" describe depression caused by wanting to fit in (i.e. suicide cutting etc.). "They pull you faster, the cadence calling / And you never fall behind / So choose a face, you're only crawling now / You mustn't fall behind" this describes someone losing their identity by becoming no more than "one of the crowd". This song is saying the same thing as Romans 12:2, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

#2 top rated interpretation:The machine is clearly the world. To me the song is about not conforming to the world and not being ashamed of Jesus. The line hide your innocence to me is clearly when Christians are afraid to admit they are for fear of rejection. But remember if we are ashamed of Jesus on Earth He will be ashamed of us in Heaven.

#3 top rated interpretation:I'm not so sure if this is right, but it is just a guess; the machine is Satan, and we can fall back, 'live a lie' and 'feed the machine'.we need to 'wake up, wake up and kill the machine'.

I think it's talking about communism. The government beats you down and controls you. You are the slave to the dictator.
-
I wouldn’t state it as he’s meaning the world. But I agree that he’s meaning the demons... or yes, Satan. If you say “the world” we go against, some may fall under the wrong idea.
-
Well I think is about the man controlling the world where is no freedom.

This song is about finding your true self the terms "falling in line", "hide your innocence", and go back to sleep" it's all about a group of people trying to confuse you in order to forget about you're true identity you can even see it in any type of propaganda no matter what side of the political spectrum you support or what religion you worship you have to support you're own interests otherwise you'll fall in line i've been through all of this before when it comes to politics now I seen the light and i've found my true identity some people are still trying to get me back in line but i'm wide awake and nothing is gonna stop me from accomplishing what is right for the american people nothing can remember this you have to separate what's right and what's wrong otherwise you'll be easy to fall back in line keep you're eyes wide open if you're still in line i'll say these 2 words "wake up!!!!!!!!".

To me, this song doesn't connect with religion. It connects more with someone trying to conform to what the world is like today, losing their true self in the process.

Satan is tempting us to do bad things. "Turn around they might be watching and you'll never disapoint them". Satan is temting us to be scared of the things that others will think of us. in this generation most people do thing that will change there lives in a bad way because there scared of what everyone else is thinking

The machine could even be the system of man made doctrines that put us into a slumber. In the video, it says "initiate cloyining." We buy the lie that we must fall in line. We buy into what is told to us even at church and we don't even study. This song isn't specifically saying church, but any belief we have that makes us fall in line with a lie deceiving us from our true identity is feeding the machine of man-centered doctrine. Most christians fall into the trap of wanting someone to tell them what to do and believe... just like the nation of Israel wanted a king during the time Samuel was Judge. It's safer to go to sleep metaphorically and let someone other than God be in control. It's a subtle deception because it's cloaked in nice sounding "churchy" stuff that far removes us from His heart with very little clue of who we are and what we were made for.
I think what I like about this song is that it makes one think and I'm sure the artists of Red have there own take too. :) -
I think its a thing of conforming to the ways of this world, as a lot of people are being desensitized and hypnotized through the evil in this world. The hypnotized people in the video represent the people who's lives have been taken over by Satan (Satan being the old man behind the control board)and the people being put through the machine are the persecuted christians and when they shout "wake up", it's a thing of awaking the inner spirit every person has...our minds might be filled with the ways of the world but that we must wake up in our spirit's...that our inner spirit must wake up and rise. That's one thing the Devil can never take away...our spirit gifted by God.
