   It is about the G.I.s in the jungle during the Vietnam War. It references many traps the Vietcong set, such as toys made into bombs and the punji pits. The "blood is cheap" part is about the many young men who died during the war.
   Also, it's "pain shears to your brain," not "pain sheers to your brain"

   I agree with the interpretation given by >Anonymous: Jan 10th 2011, 22:43< however, I would like to add to the interpretation. I think "mandatory suicide" is also in reference to the draft.

   during the gallic wars a roman legion was surrounded by the gauls and every roman soldier committed suicide because they were going to be killed anyway. i think this is what the song is about but in a more modern sense.

   It's about soldiers who belong to an infantry unit who know for sure the enemy is about to kill them all and mandatory suicide is the only way to end their sheer terror. The soldiers kill themselves or kill each other because they know the enemy is going to kill them anyway.
