Smashing Pumpkins - Here Is No Why Meaning

Here Is No Why Lyrics
The endless drags of a death rock boy
Mascara sure and lipstick lost
Glitter burned by restless thoughts of being forgotten
And in your sad machines
You'll forever stay
Desperate and displeased-with whoever...
-
This song Is about Kurt Cobain, It fits his lifestyle, "he pulls his hair down over a frowning smile" Kurt smiled a lot but wasn't happy. His Suicide was recent at the time.

First off the song isn't about Kurt Cobain, billy and Kurt weren't friends. They respected each other but that was it. Billy has confirmed this in interviews not every nostalgic sad rock song post kurts death isn't about him. The song speaks about depression etc billy has always been a sad sappy person (not that its a bad thing) but the key line "in your sad machines" talks about his guitars being an escape. He speaks of gothic rock with the mascara lipstick lost line. I'm not a 100% but it seems as if he's referring to Robert Smith from the cure. Billy is known for being a massive fan. The song points out a certain nostalgia and talks about being different whilst being immersed in rock and roll and it being an escape. Here is no why is also a term that was used in nazi Germany, these references are heard alot in Mellon collie
-
This song is about the sad demise of Kurt Cobain. The lyrics confirm it.
-
The song is about regretting being a rockstar.
