Sum 41: Crash Meaning
Crash Lyrics
'Cos I couldn't even if I tried
It's over now
I guess it really is my time
I don't wanna go
But it's time I got to say goodbye
So hold me now
'Cos this will be our last time
I'm slowing down
And I don't think that I can...

#1 top rated interpretation:This song was written about 5 years ago, long before the divorce. This song is about a friend of Deryck that died in a car accident, hence the name "Crash".

#2 top rated interpretation:I think this song has to do with someone who is dieing (has cancer or something) and is upset because when he passes the person he loves will be own there own.

this song is my favorite song by sum 41 but it is also the saddest, the part where it said "it was not supposed to end this way" reminded me of all the wrong things in my life, but things can only get better and if I die it would be hard for anyone around me to accept my death.
-
Here is the real story, directly from Deryck: https://www.rocksound.tv/news/read/deryck-whibley-posts-poignant-demo-of-sum-41-track-crash

Song is on target for a cancer victim and your love ones are there to the end. Named crash but can be for anyone that dies well before they should. Rest in peace
-
I feel its more about the car crash and Avril but before my boyfriend died he sang this song to me so its basically about a Death R.I.P Riko
-
I see the meaning like to say "goodbye" in anyways. Because of an accident, suicide or just because your too old. However, every one of us die oneday. This are the last words of an dieing man. I think Deryck is not specking about him, just for every people who reach the end of life...
-
I agree a bit with what has been said about Deryck witnessing a car accident, and maybe this is about that, but when I first listened to this song I seriously thought it was about his ex-wife, Avril Lavigne, speacially because of "I just wanna feel your head layin on my chest" and "was supposed to grow old with you". And if you listen to Avril Lavigne's 4 Real she says "If I hold you just for today, I'm not gonna wanna let go, I 'm not gonna wanna go home" and Deryck definently asks for someone to hold him in this song.
-
He's talking about if he was going to die what he wld be like if he was in his deathbed with his lover/the woman he loves was standing next to him. He doesn't want to die but he is. crash could mean his life crashed and is about to end it doesn't necessarily mean a car crash. He longs for her thats why he says "I just wanna feel
Your head laying on my chest" and "hold me now". -
This song is about a car crash Deryck saw.. the person in the car died ... well end of story. I don't think this is about Avril =')
-
As far as I know, the song is about a very brutal car crash, derryck witnessed, the victim died because of the heavy injuries, so the song is about saying goodbye and fading away, that's why the title is "crash".
-
I have to agree from the title "Crash" like as a car crash and they habe enough time to say their final words to someone they love, but I didn't know about being 5 years old, interesting fact.
-
Since his past relationship i think that its definitely about a broken heart. She really really hurt him deep."it was never supposed to end up this way, what do i have to do? was supposed to grow old with you." Married to spend you life with the person you love. Getting married with the intentions of being together till you die like it is intended.
