Sum 41: Pieces Meaning
Pieces Lyrics
But nothing was worth it
I don't believe it makes me real
I thought it'd be easy
But no one believes me
I meant all the things I said
If you believe it's in my soul
I'd say all the words that I know
Just to see if...

#1 top rated interpretation:This is all about failure and acceptance that one can never be perfect, everything has its flaws, especially relationships. The "ideal" is this unreachable entity like that of something on T.V. or in a book, the ideal can never be reached in real life.

#2 top rated interpretation:I always see this as a person who wants to be left alone. Everyone around him has clung to him too tight, or clung too loosely, and he can't take it anymore. He wants to show them that he's better off getting everything in his life done by himself.

3TOP RATED
#3 top rated interpretation:This song is about trying to be somebody different for someone else, and just realizing that you're not happy with the person you've become, because you realize it's not truly you. In the end, you decide that you're rather be alone and yourself than someone you're not and popular ("I'm better off on my own.")
-
The song is about a guy who isn't ready to be in the relationship his girl wants/needs him to be in. He's sorry, but it just isn't him and he's 'better off alone' right now. Maybe one day he'll be ready for "the perfect night/family/vacation/life" but for now, he needs to find himself and hopefully if she's still available, when he's ready, she'll include him in that life.

There are multiple ways interpretations that the meaning culd go. My first interpretation was that he was in relationship and it didn't work, for whatever he did it wasn't it enough. He felt very out place and hurt because he meant everything he said. He tried reconciliation to repair everything but it turned out to not be wothr it because his feelings weren't reciprocated. Eventually, even the girl wanted another chance, he felt he was better off on his own because he had nothing with her now.
-
This song to me is about a kid who tries to fit in or be "cool" like everyone else, and even though he might get acceptance he doesn't feel like the real him. and then he realizes he doesn't need those people b/c if he can't be himself around them, he's better off on his own.
-
This means a person acts like someone else for acceptance but later knows that he hates the way he is living.
-
About depression.

This song is about changing yourself for someone, then realizing its not worth it, and ending the relationship
