Taylor Swift: Haunted Meaning
Song Released: 2010
Haunted Lyrics
I have known it all this time
But I never thought I'd live to see it break
It's getting dark
And it's all too quiet
And I can't trust anything now
And it's coming over you
Like it's all a big mistake
Oh...
-
I thought that it might be about how a boy broke up with her, but she's still haunted by him because she loved him so much. She's trying to forget about him by dating other boys. When she says
He will try to take away my pain
And he just might make me smile
But the whole time I'm wishing he was you instead
She's talking about another boy here, a boy who likes her and she is with, but she can't help but wish he was the other guy. -
i think, although it can be taken in many ways, that it's about a series of failing relationships. i can empathise strongly with it because it's about a failing relationship where the guy doesn't like the girl enough, and is beginning to cut her off, not reply to texts, etc. and although they've always "walked a fragile line", it has never gotten this bad, unlike other guys the protagonist has also had a fallout with. so Taylor is struggling with the concept of yet another guy losing interest, yet another failing relationship, and she feels haunted by the previous, because it just keeps happening. when she says "keep holding on to nothing" she's referring that she doesn't want to let go, unlike her partner. make your eyes go cold- well, the guy is losing interest, the love in his eyes has gone cold. he tries to take away her pain by being slow and gentle in letting her down- but she wishes it was the old "him". that's why she says "don't leave me like this", and "i thought i had you figured out", because she thought this time was different. and "finish what you started" relates to how he led her on and loved her, but now he's just silently and gently letting her down.
hope that gave someone a new perspective -
I believe this song can be viewed differently to other people.
Some might think it's about love some about friendship some about family troubles ...
So the meaning depends on how YOU see it. There isn't a wrong or right way to describe the meaning.
For me the song can relate on how I feel about the relationship I have with one of my family member or a friend or for those who have a boyfriend/girlfriend than this song can maybe relate on how you feel hurt over them and that you feel " Haunted " By them. -
I really think this song is about Padme Amidala and Anakin tragedy. It fits perfectly!

You and I walk a fragile line
I have known it all this time
But I never thought I'd live to see it break
(this part is saying that her and the boy that she loves have a relationship that is very fragile and possibly easily ruined because they both dont understand eachother, and she is saying she knew one day things would break but she never thought she would actually see the day happen so soon.)
It's getting dark
And it's all too quiet
And I can't trust anything now
And it's coming over you
Like it's all a big mistake
(In this part she is saying that things are slowly getting worse and she doesnt know what to do or who to trust and then she says that the boy is acting like everything they had was his mistake for going through with it so long)
Oh holding my breath
Won't lose you again
Something's made your
Eyes go cold
(in this part she is saying that shes doing the best she can to not lose the boy again because obviously, they have a lot of relationship problems and that something is making him be more and more difficult no matter how hard she tries to make him happy)
Come on, come on
Don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Something's gone terribly wrong
You're all I wanted
Come on, come on
Don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
Can't turn back
Now I'm haunted
(In this part she is begging him to not be done with her because all she is trying to do is make him happy and understand his issues whatever they are and that she wants him and only him and when hes gone its so hard for her and since she cant go back and change what happened she is haunted my her memories and the thought of what she might have done wrong to make him leave)
Stood there and watched you walk away
From everything we had
But I still meant every word I said
To you (in this part she is saying that she finally let him do what he wanted and stopped putting herself through trying to keep him, and she meant whatever words she said to him whether she was telling him how much she loved him or how much of a bipolar ass he was, haha)
He will try to take away my pain
And he just might make me smile
But the whole time I'm wishing he was you instead
(this part speaks for itself, she tries to move on to other people and no matter how much they make her smile, she still wishes he was the one making her smile)
Oh oh holding my breath
Won't see you again
something keeps me holding onto nothing.
(in this part she is basically saying that the boy probly wont go back to being with her but she still hasnt giving up and she is still holding on and staying positive.)
Come on, come on
Don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Something's gone terribly wrong
You're all I wanted
Come on, come on
Don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
Can't turn back
Now I'm haunted
I know
I know
I just know
You're not gone
You can't be gone
No(in this part she is saying she knows that he isnt gone yet and she strongly believes that he will come back because of everything they have been through, so she isnt giving up because she knows deep down that they'll be together again)
Come on, come on
Don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Something's gone terribly wrong
Won't finish what you started
Come on, come on
Don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
Can't go back
I'm haunted
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
You and I walk a fragile line
I have known it all this time
Never ever thought I'd see it break
Never thought I'd see it.
That's my interpretation, it could be about a break up from a relationship, or it could be about two people that haven't exactly dated but have been on and off for a very long time and they have something special between eachother. I relate to this song because im going through a situation just like this right now. hope you enjoyed my interpretation :) -
The song is about a boy and a girl with a FRAGILE relationship. Not a weak relationship, but a fragile one. But when they were together and everything was ok they were fully in love, but when it started getting bad she was supprised even thought she knew the relationship was fragile because she thought of how amazing the good times were. When the guy leaves her she can't belive he is gone. She is haunted by all the memories of him and her, and she can't get over him because of all the unanswered questions he left behind when he broke up with her. She refuses to give up on him and exccept that he is gone because she saw that when they were together in the good times that he cared for her. He seems like he has trust issues , and it is hard for him to let anyone to get too close to him. So now she wants to get him back and help him learn to trust her and their love.

I like to think that this song is MORE than just another break-up song. I believe that this song is about somebody falling in love with somebody who commits suicide. Not a nice thiought, I know, but I like drama. I think the female fell for somebody passionatly but the relationship between them was weak. By weak I mean not strong. Not firm. They'd be in love some of the time and the next shouting. It kept changing. I think that he commits suicide for some reason (maybe related to their relationship), and she is unable to believe it. She knows how hard it always was to keep up the relationship but she never thought he would finish it in this way. She sees him still thoiugh. The memory of him haunts her.She wants him back so badly it's driving her insane and she just KNOWS he's not gone. He CAN'T be gone.

I feel like Taylor Swift wrote this song for the Movie Eclispe. She was dating Taylor lautner while she was writing the songs and Taylor Lautner was filming Eclispe. Thats what I think this song is about. When she says "he will try and take away my pain, and he just might make me smile" makes it sound like she is talking about Jacob Black when he trys to get Bella Over Edward leaving her.

This song is talking about two people who fell in love but the guy left the girl and the girl is still trying to pick up the pieces that he left broken. She cannot get over him and she is saying that she knew that this would happen one day. "You and I walk a fragile line, I have known it all this time,
But I never thought I'd live to see it break"
She is saying that she knew that the love was weak.. maybe one sided but she always thought that things would change.. that they wont break up.. but they did. and he left her broken and she cant get over it.."it's getting dark, I can't trust anything now" she is saying that she trusted him and he broke the trust.. she cannot trust anyone now.
basically she is saying that she loved him and she thought that they would be with each other forever. she thought that they would overcome the problems but her darkest nightmare came true and he left her.. she cannot believe that he is really gone and she wants him to come back..:) -
This song reminds me of me and my friend. She just dropped our friendship like that. With no explanation.
I love this song at the moment! -
Well, to me this is about being left by the boy you thought was for sure the one. You loved him so much, and you feel like without him, it's the end of the world and you just don't believe it's happening, so you're in denial. Every step you take brings back a memory of him, every thought somehow relates to him, or reminds you of him. You feel like you kind-of saw it could happen, but was optimistic and just told yourself that it could never happen.
This song strangely reminds me of my ex and first love. I actually broke up with him originally, but about 5 weeks ago I told him I regretted it and needed him back, but he said no. I was so close to putting a gun to my head because of that, but I didn't. It's painful because I see him every day at summer camp (I'm 11 1/2) and whenever I see him, I'm haunted by regret and him. He knew I was emo, so he could have at least given me a reason why he wouldn't get back together with me, or why he seemed to not care. -
It's about her relationship with Joe Jonas or John Mayer because they both wound up stringing her along she fell for them and they wound up breaking her heart and is haunted by how it ended.
-
I think Haunted is a song about a possibly quite rough break up,and being haunted by the memories of it.
-
This is a song about a breakup with a boy who was everything to you - you loved him, you couldn't of imagined life with anyone else, you dont want anyone to fill his spot in your life, and you couldn't imagine life without him there with you. Ever since he broke up with you, you cant get him out of your head, every little thing reminds you of him, he's 'haunting' you.
-
She can't believe that he broke up with her. Now she's been crying in the corner and everytime she see's him she's haunted by evey touch, every kiss, Every hug. She can't believe he did that to her. I like a lot of the other suggestions especially the one about how he was playing her because that was kind f the same idea i had.
