Song Released: 2011
Gold on the Ceiling Lyrics
She screams again
Roar at the door
My mind can't take much more
I could never drown in
They wanna get my
They wanna get my
Gold on the ceiling
I ain't blind
Just a matter of time
Before you steal it
It's...

Cowboys and aliens

I think it's all about people come and go and some people are only there for the money, so his "gold" is what he's worth and there's no one guarding his wealth.. Therefore the song is about a struggle between him and his money

Many churches have gilded ceilings. I originally read it as someone wants to takes his gold that he had on the ceiling, but i realized it could be they want to put "get" his gold onto their ceilings. IE the church is taking his gold and using it beautify their church. Eaterofcats has an interesting take though with the vice angle. I was a little confused earlier with the lyric "blood in my eye" and found some people think its god in my eye which seems to fit more with the church theory I presented, saying the church is stealing his money and putting it on the ceiling even though he doesnt believe in God, and fits the vice idea because the church is stealing. However, Bob Dylan wrote the song "blood in my eye" and if thats the line then it seems to support the idea of a lady trying to get to his money because Dylan's song is essentially about a gold digger. But since the line is "Ain't no blood in my eye" it would make more sense that he is well aware of the girl going for his money and he doesn't care, he knows she'll get to it

@eaterofcats - nice try, almost convincing, but it doesn't say 'gold IN the ceiling'. It says 'gold ON the ceiling'
-
Your load was so large, it hit the ceiling, therefore leaving your"gold on the ceiling"
