Adele: Set Fire to the Rain Meaning
Song Released: 2011
Set Fire to the Rain Lyrics
I let it fall, my heart,
And as it fell, you rose to claim it,
It was dark and I was over,
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me,
My hands, they were strong, but my knees were far too weak,
To stand in your...

Set fire to the rain is impossible in real life... Metaphorically, it shows strength to overcome that huge deception... Is going above and beyond the impossible to terminate something that it is hurting...and still succeed.
She " Watched it pour (the rain on fire) as I touched your face,
Well, it burned while I cried,
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name,"
She burned too, ending up this relationship , but she did it.
I like it, because I think is powerful and empowering. -
I see this as ADELE throwing pictures of the relationship and throws them into flames and she feels mixed emotions of how they broke up like at the part where it goes "Sometimes I wake up by the door. That heart you caught must be waitin' for ya." That is how i think the song

my interpretation
1st verse
she was heartbroken and falling into despair until this guy came along and showed her what love was again. she fell hard for him and allowed herself to fall deeply in love with him (hence falling to his feet).
Bridge
she eventually realized that he had hidden a part of himself to fool her and that he really was a liar. she was so in love that she let him get away with doing what he wanted ('you would always win')
1st Chorus
i see this as a bit literal. setting fire to the rain means for me that she forced herself to end the relationship. It's like a fire all around her rapidly burning all of the memories and everything that came along with it. ('watched it pour as i touched your face')- she kinda wants to hold back from doing this but she knows she has to get rid of all traces of him. hence she cried cuz it's hurting. the fire was calling out his name because he's the one who has to be destroyed.
2nd verse
she's just reminiscing again of how good and secure she felt in the relationship. (oh how love blinds you!)
2nd chorus
she adds to the first
she's again burning their relationship. there's no more 'us'. in evaluating everything and ending the relationship she realized that although she still feels something for him, something died in her - she's not the same person who would fall for his games. He no longer has that hold on her. that was the last time.
final verse
i think somewhere in her she still wants him to fight for her. she finds herself (and her heart) looking out by her door to see if he will come to her. a part of her wants to know what he's doing, if he still wants her... but she knows the relationship is dead. -
adele has ended a relationship and is obviously destroyed when she meets someone she thinks will rescue her. but unfortunately she has met someone who cant really help himself - a gay man that for whatever reason still feels the need to try to make it work with a woman, but in his attempt to fool himself, he is destroying this female who thought she had found her true love. by setting fire to the rain, her loving touch and confrontation about his lack of physical interest in her and the fact he was living dual life was to a bi or gay man like setting fire to the rain. suck to love someone and know you will never have there love completely. whether they are married, they are gay or bi or just not attracted to you. life is so hard, almost better to just be alone with cats. lol. but then again, we wouldnt get to her these great songs about lost love.

This song is self explanatory. She is alone and still heartbroken from a previous relationship until she met a man who saved her. She was vulnerable but he said and did all the right things and she fell deeply in love with this new man. She spends a lot of time with him and realizes that everything who he is and what he has said to her is a complete lie. He played "games" with her and would always "win". She was blinded by her love for him. She finally realizes that this relationship is bad for her and even though she was madly in love with him she finally had the strength to end the relationship by doing something so bad so that she could never go back to him. She burned and ended the relationship so she would never have to feel pain from him again. Even though she still loves him and longs for him, she is letting the relationship burn. I love this song. We all have been through it. Most of us have been burned by someone at one point or another. I just recently and I ended it in a way that I could never go back to that pain again. This song makes perfect sense to me and what I'm going through. Love her!

its about loving someone so deeply that you are blinded completely and only when you get out do you see the faults that person had. You believed that they were the one you were destined to be with and it felt right to be with them. But they didnt feel the same way hence the chorus. You still miss them and are still in love with them and you hope that they would come back and love you. But you dont forget how they treated you so you let it burn

Very short 'cause no words would be enough: the fire is the passionate(strength of love); the rain is eraser .she 's tried to burried the sad memory but her faith still goes on.

In my opinion, she has just finished a relationship with a man, when another comes into her life. This one is no better, if anything, worse. Adele is broken from her previous relationship, and wants to believe that her new lover is kind, and cares about her. Finally, she relizes that this man does not love her, and ends their relationship.

It's like you set my heart on fire adele and soul on fire but you stay strong and you keep on going with your life by hope montgomery.

I think adele was so up set and heart broken feel something in me and it so sad for adele..
-
I believe that this song means she's burning all that rain that she earned over those years. You know what I mean ^^
-
I believe this song means that her boy is making it rain and then she's lighting it on fire and then they both die.
-
This seems like It goes along with the hunger games almost perfectly she says in the games you play meaning the hunger games and the person she loves is peeta. You will know what I mean if you read it. If you haven't I would highly recommend it
-
from a mans perspective:
It's about ending relationship by poisoning its roots.
It's like scoring goals for another team and then leaving because it's not winning.
I could be wrong... -
I believe she is trying to, instead of putting out the fire with rain, set the fire again, bringing the relationship back.
