AJR: Bang! Meaning
Bang! Lyrics
And the rumpus and ruckus are comfortable now
Been a hell of a ride but I'm thinkin' it's time
To grow (bang! bang! bang!)
So I got an apartment across from the park
Put quinoa in my fridge,...

To those that say this is not about suicide, you really need to open your eyes. But then again, i must be commenting to 12-18 year olds.
-
I'm 99 % its about suicide because think about it out your best face on means pretend everything's alright and I'm way to Young to lie here forever I'm way to old to try so whatever means he's just depressed and doesn't give a duck anymore
-
What the heck you guys. That's all I can even say.
This song IS NOT about suicide. If you knew the band at all, you would know that they like to write songs about things most people do not, and that most of their songs are about growing up.
You guys are thinking about the lyrics all wrong. If AJR were to actually write a song about suicide, they would've dropped in fame dramatically. Going out with a bang does not mean shooting yourself. In the song, it means "I'm an adult now. Things are going to get super boring so let's celebrate childhood while we still can."
They literally said it themselves. The song isn't about suicide it's about how boring adulthood is.
Okay, moving past that. For those of you that have questions about some of the lyrics, I'll actually focus on that now instead of what the song isn't.
The whole, "...put quinoa in my fridge..." thing is a comparison to adulthood. Ryan Met, one of the members of the band said that if adulthood could be summed up in one word, it would be quinoa. Quinoa is some kind of food made of a flower or something, but the reason Ryan said that is because when you put quinoa in your fridge and let it sit there, it gets sticky and hard and just difficult to eat.
For the "I'm way to young to lie here forever I'm way too old to try so whatever" means that they don't want to sit around doing nothing, but they don't want to put effort into trying to actually do something, so they're just going to enjoy life before they have tons of responsibilities as an adult.
AJR is a great band full of great people, and they would never write a song about suicide, trust me.
Hope this helped! -
Ok, I know it’s sounds so, but this song is NOT what about suiside! My dad was talking about this song earlier and thinks so, but it’s not. It’s simply the fuzzy difference between “Go”, and “Grow”, and on the AJR channel the lyrics say “Grow”. The band even said so themselves, it’s about the transition between childhood and adulthood. Most of their other songs are about life like that. Trust me, the radio station’s would not play this song if it was about THAT. Please trust me on this one, this song is a bop and I don’t want you to think badly about it!

It is so not about suicide. This is what they said:
"We wrote 'BANG!' about the weird middle ground between being a kid and becoming an adult; a time when we're doing all the things adults are supposed to do, but we don't yet feel grown up," the Metzer brothers said in a press release. -
This song should not even be played on the radio it is most definitely talking about suicide. I mean come on go out with a BANG. When hes talking like he is depressed throughout the whole song. Not cool at all for people that might be thinking this and if they are I pray they get the help they need no matter what age. I have been through it and it is not easy. And a song like this might just send one over the edge. I pray it does not.

This song is so not about suicide. It's about transitioning into an adult.
Been a hell of a ride but I'm thinkin' it's time to grow
-He's had fun but it's time to grow up.
Put quinoa in my fridge, still I'm not feelin' grown
-He doesn't fill like an adult even though he has quinoa in the fridge.
Feel like I'm gonna puke 'cause my taxes are due
-Only adults pay taxes.
You can figure the rest out! -
very disturbing, I think its encouraging suicide or mass shooting, since it says"lets"so its enticing/inviting to join in this demented song!! Honestly its got a catchy tune but the lyrics are wacked!! prob should be removed from charts!!!just my personal opinion.
-
I believe he’s had enough. Nothing in the present while he’s young, and nothing to look forward to as he gets older. “ It’s been a hell of a ride, but I’m thinking it’s time to go”. I interpreted as going out with a bang, a suicide song.
-
Please, shouldn't this be obvious! (Sorry for be TOXIC.) This song is about suicide, and how he's sick of life, and going out with a BANG! is the best way to go.
If you are struggling with suicide, please tell a trusted adult, or a friend. No matter how long you had it, or who you are, everyone deserves help. -
There out fits remind me of the shining by steven king, the song is super catchy and I feel like it has defenitly has a suicidal meaning to it bang bang bang come on they said it's about transitioning from kids to adults, idk seems creepy to me
-
It seems like it's about suicide, like they're so bored with 'the norm'that they are finding ways to kill themselves.
-
It seems that the song is referencing suicide, "im way too young to lie here forever im way to old too try so whatever" then it says "let's go out with a bang" So basically he's done trying and so he;s finding different ways to die. We can also see the monotonous tasks of the day are wearing him out, "feel like im gonna puke cause my taxes are due" so everyday tasks are depressing. Basically its about depression and suicide.
-
I think it tries to tie in that it is their last song like when he says "i'm thinking its tome to go, here we go"
-
To me it seems to represent being stuck in a rut. You get used to the chaos and abuse and it becomes comfortable, yet draining and depressing.
After a while, making change, however tough, is possible. There is a major adjustment period, and in a certain way we miss the old life.
It seems like a Carpe Diem sort of situation.
