Alan Walker: Darkside Meaning
Song Released: 2016
Darkside Lyrics
I’m not alone
We share those stories
Just something in your eyes
Don’t be afraid
The shadow’s roaming
Let’s leave the world behind
[Pre-Chorus: Tomine Harket]
Take me through the night
Fall in to the...

As I think this is about a love story between a young girl & young boy. But it is rejected by the society or culture for a reason. They love each other but can't express for a reason.(we are not in love, just something in your eyes) One person tell other one to don't think about them we can handle this & join me. ( lets leave the world behind/ we'll live on the darkside) Darkside is a situation where they are not accepted in society.( don't wait for truth to come & blind us.lets just believe their lies) Though it is rejected by the society that person thinks its right according to his point of view. He/she makes other person to think of it ( believe it/ I see it / i know that you can feel it ) He/ she invites other person to make that decision though other persons think it is wrong & while they have strength to fight for it if they have to. (While we're still young & fearless). So lets make that decision..let go of the light fall into the darkside

My interpretation is someone (person a) loves someone (person b) but is in “the dark”. person a doesn’t share anything with person b, but is telling them not to be afraid as they have been in the dark for a bit and fears person b will get scared and run away. The “take me through the night” part is person b telling person a that they want to be in the dark with them, and be in love with them while they are still young and have no regrets. The “beneath the sky, as black as diamonds, we’re running out of time” is person a thinking that person b will start to get tired of being in the dark all the time because others are telling person b that the dark is not a good place to be. Truth being the dark is a good place to be in a way, but person a is scared and telling person b to just believe that they shouldn’t be in the dark because it will hurt them. The “believe it, I see it, I know that you can feel it” is person b telling person a they know that person a likes the darkness and doesn’t want to leave, and taunts the other people telling them not to be in the dark in a way by saying “fool me like I’m dreaming” because there are “no secrets worth keeping about the dark.
I know how that sounds, but that’s just my interpretation. You don’t have to agree. -
Let’s believe the dark sides lies, it’s easier then listening to the truth! Lets choose the dark side, lets go with Darth Vader! It reminds me of Star Wars. Although I think It’s about going with good or bad, she wants to convince him to go with the bad group and do bad things

I think that this is about someone who feels lost or has depression, and they don’t feel like they have a place in the world. They are tired of pretending to be someone who they aren’t, and want to just die. Sometimes I feel like this, when I think that maybe the world would be better off without me, or why do I even exist? This person may feel like they have no soul, and forgot the purpose of living.
They realize that it’s time to stop being a fake and wants give in to the dark side, where they belong. -
i feel as though it means that a lot of things like some have discussed, such as the darkside being yourself and i believe that, while at the same i believe it to be also a meaning in staying young instead of following your elders and to enjoy life while your young. i could be wrong i don't believe in it but it sounds like thats what its saying. As i always say "nothing is as it seems there's more to it than what you see".

I think it is about two people who love each other and are the same gender (gay/lesbian) I think they have tried to have others understand them but they don't so they say the "Darkside" is hell because usually, people say that if you are gay you go to hell. (sorry if this is written badly, I was writing fast)

I think this is like something that...i don't really know it just made me think that Alan Walker here wants people to what run away from home? i mean thats where its going. "Fall into the darkness" does that mean we should pack our bags and then run off into the darkness? you ever feel like the untouched places that you have not been to have like this urging feeling to find out about it? Thats how i kind of feel. behind a house down my street it a open space of land from my perspective. I always have wanted to go there and find out what the heck is over there. i think i am ready to pack my blankets cloths pizza dog leash dog food, dog myself my charger my phone and then when everyone goes to sleep i can pick up my puppy, and bags and "fall into the darkside" which ja outside and never return. Just me and my dog. me and dog.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I think that Darkside is about getting involved in a cult.
Lyrics like "Don't wait for truth, to come and blind us, let's just believe the lies" and "fool me like I'm dreaming" makes it seem like the narrator is trying to believe in something that they don't. They also sing a lot about "the shadows" and say that they will "fall into the dark side" as if speaking about otherworldly happenings. They also state "no secrets worth keeping" as if they feel like they can trust whoever is manipulating them and telling them their deepest, darkest secrets. However, in cults, this is usually used to blackmail members into not leaving if they begin to lose faith.
And even at the very start with "We're not in love, we share no stories, just something in your eyes, don't be afraid, the shadows know me, let's leave the world behind" make me think that the last three lines are quotes from someone who seemed trustworthy and groomed the narrator into joining the cult. She doesn't know what it is about this person but she feels inclined to believe anything he says. Perhaps because she is in a time of desperation. Most people who join cults are also in rough times and are suffering from a mental illness such as depression. That's why they want something to hope for. -
I think to see the meaning in this song you also need to watch the music video. In the video there are people in black robes and people in white robes almost like cults representing the light and the dark. They have these Alan walker symbols which transform into machines that can fly and scan(or do something else I’m not sure) 3D shapes. The white cult has more older people and the black more young(which explains the lines “while we’re still young and fearless”). In the song it continuously tells you to fall into the Darkside(join the black cult) It’s almost like the song is being sang by the black cult, which means the line “let’s just believe their lies” is referring to the white cult. I think the first lines “were not in love, we share no stories, just something in about your eye” might be talking about the other people in the cult. And the whole song is saying that the light and the dark are not what you think they are, they’re the same thing and they do the same thing just in a different way.

i know in advance, that most people will hate this.
i think the darkside is a (very appropriate) metaphore for religion. several verses (actually the entire second strophe) indicate this explnanation:
Beneath the sky
As black as diamonds
We're running out of time
Don't wait for truth
To come and blind us
Let's just believe their lies
Believe it, I see it
I know that you can feel it
No secrets worth keeping
So fool me like I'm dreaming -
I think its more of a religious song. . The dark being evil and light being opposite of evil.
-
i think that it could be about light pollution. Well, the whole "dark" and "light" part is obvious. But the part where it says "don't wait for truth to come and blind us, let's just believe the lies" could be about how people are being lied to about this and stuff??
idk man i gotta go back to making propaganda for the IDA, bye -
I think it's being yourself and living your best life regardless of what anybody else thinks...
-
i think that this song is about going to a dark place to improve yourself as a person. its like when you swimming at drowning going under the water you need to go down so you can get back up its the same thing with religion a lot of people find God when they are in a dark place and need help. the truths are probably the things you want to tell yourself why you should be happy although your depressed but the lies are the things you think of as lies like "i'm not okay" or "i need help" and you want to be strong so you don't want to admit those things to yourself so they feel like lies. sometimes you just need to break everything down strategically to the foundation and work your way up again.
