Alan Walker: Lily Meaning
Lily Lyrics
Afraid of the big, wide world
She grew up within her castle walls
Now and then she tried to run
And then on the night with the setting sun
She went in the woods away
So afraid, all alone
They warned her, don't go...

TW! Sexual Abuse - Abusive Relationships - Abusive Parents - Rape
If you are uncomfortable with any of these topics, this is not for you!
This came across me suddenly. There are some comments that I scrolled through that were on the same wavelength as how I see it, but none that truly see what I see.
If you listen real closely, it seems as if Lily is in a sexually abusive relationship.
It starts off by saying that Lily grew up in castle walls. This suggests her being sheltered. What sheltered insinuates is unknown.
It could mean innocence, helicopter parents, or even abusive (although I would not say physically) parents. I personally see it as helicopter-borderline emotionally abusive. However, it could mean just innocence and she would have a desire to explore. For the sake of convience, I will continue with the helicopter parent route with mild emotional abuse.
Lily, due to the helicopter/abusive relation with her parents, wants to flee the nest. So, she runs away from the situation at a young age (before adulthood).
While roaming the streets trying to hide (the forest of concrete), she runs into a man. The age of this man is unknown, but I see it to be a older man (probably pedophilia) because of his silver tongue.
The man becomes infatuated. He sees a young, pretty girl. He sees a meal. A meal that doesn't even know how much danger she is in because her parents suppressed her growth.
Lily continues to hang out with the man, probably seeing him as a friend. She is completely oblivious of his true intentions. Of course, he makes advances that Lily finds to be uncomfortable, but she hasn't had friends before so she just thinks it's normal.
Eventually, he makes his move. He uses Lily's innocence to sexually abuse her. This is when he starts to enchant her with adventures.
However, these adventures are him roaming her body.
"From the top of mountains (her breasts/chest) to the valley low (her bottom)."
"Just let me in." I'm pretty sure you should be able to infer what I see with this line.
When Lily wakes up, she's realizing that he isn't her friend. She's lost that innocence. She feels violated, used. With the spontaneous discovery comes the overwhelming to run. Afterall, she's already done it once.
So she does. She's in a shady, ghetto part of town. People here would be more than willing to repeat the man's actions or worse.
Even if she were to get to the main street before the man caught up for her and call for help, nothing would end up happening. It's not uncommon for people on the streets to openly ignore someone calling for help. Situations when people are getting stabbed in broad daylight could have easily been stopped if one of the many bystanders there had taken action, but they hadn't.
So even when she runs, begging for help, she doesn't receive any. The man catches up to her and drags her back. She's stuck.
Of course, the song is open ended, but it wouldn't be a stretch to say that she had been abused (sexually, physically, emotionally, mentally) until her death. Whether the man snapped and killed her for her insubordination or if she took her own life in a desperate hope to escape from the inescapable situation.
My interpretation was rather dark, but I feel like it adequately covers all the major points, and brings awareness to real issues within the world. This situation is one that many people suffer, so it seems much more meaningful if this is the intention behind the song (although it is near guaranteed I'm just reading into it too much).
Hope you enjoy my little theory! -
Lily is a young girl who did not listen to her parents, went outside the castle walls, and into the woods she went alone but then something came creeping and she got scared and was all alone.
-
(This is just for fun.)
I believe that lily was resembling something like Gravity falls (shh, I can dream) "She new she was hypnotized and on cold thin ice then it broke and she awoke again" I believe it represents well, y'know hypnosis, but I think it can get deeper, "everything you wantin' gonna be the magic story you've been told" Sounds like manipulation. (Here me out.) "She went into the woods away so afraid. All alone" hmm, that sounds really familiar, (lmao wth am I doing.) What if she went into the woods (Here me out ×2) and found a creature, "you'll be safe under my control." Probably ended up Killing her, (idk I'm bored.) What do you think? -
I think its about a heartbroken grown up woman and Lily is her inner child. Living life in deception and building up walls. Apparently, she decided to face her fear and take a leap of faith and try to love again. Her mature self trying to pull her inner child from going further as she is afraid to might be hurt again. This man she met, told her"dont you worry just follow everywhere I go...." She knew that all men is the same - jerk, but chooses to believe in love again.. Her gut feeling gave her false alarm.. there is no such things as true love. She was deep down broken, feeling helpless and trying to survive another day.

At first, I only heard the literal interpretation, but then I dug deeper. Now- hear me out.
(A: Lily is a teenage girl) (B: that was afraid of growing up and responsibilities as a little kid.) (C: Her parents keep her cooped up all day, and warn her about) (D: highschool, as well as) (E: shady students that she should avoid.) They told her 'Don't go there' (Don't get into that kind of trouble). (F: As she grew to a teen, Lily was so lonely, and wished for love from someone. She decided to sneak out.) (H: Lily met a bad student, and was mesmerized by them.) (G: When the person realized, they decided to take advantage of her, asking if they cared enough to do anything for them, legal or not.) (G: Lily agreed, and was now under full 'hypnosis'.) (I: By this time, she had done all of the bidding for them, and was now 'walking on thin ice' or 'doing something risky'. She had been caught commiting a crime and was on the run when the high-schooler she met came sprinting to her with a cop, yelling 'That's the girl!' (or something along those lines). The ice shattered, she was now in trouble, and she realized that they had never loved them back.) (J: Lily ran, screaming for help, even though she knew it was pointless.)
I guess this is a story about how you shouldn't associate with bad people. -
Im pretty sure Lily is a young girl. Who is a princess, who always wanted to see the outside world. but her parents knew better, so they rried to protect her. one night after her parents went to bed (they would most likely stop her) she went out, found a "creature" ( who what it was) and she most likely heard stories of nice creatures who'd help you become anything you want. So she went out in search of one. she finds a "creature" trusts it, gets hypnotized and the creature far away from home. they somehow travel to the arctic , the ice is thin, and she falls in. Spell breaks and in an attempt to get home, she falls into captivity of the creature, and her life/death is unknown.

Lily is a girl a little girl then she grows up.as a teenager she wants to know about the world but parent say not to go.perhaps, may be like this, she has a love with someone else then she go with her boyfriend in dusk silently because the boy friend says that i will protect you.boy was cheated.he only need lily for complete his sexual needs but he came like a loving one.maybe the boy changed, and the lily realise his changing nature(maybe the "she falls through the thin ice layer" reflects that lily lose her something valuble) she suffered, and then he ran away from him.then her asking for help to give love, affection and protection ,then he heard someone says "i will protect you"as above then the same thing repeat or finally lily's real lover will protect her.........
(Maybe grammatical mistakes are present ,sorry) -
Disclaimer: Harry Potter reference.
So, the first thing that came to my mind as a Harry Potter fan was Lily Evans/Potter. She is a "little girl" when she is introduced to magic, and is, in a way, afraid of all that she is yet to discover - Hogwarts, etc. The fact that she grows up within her "castle wall" indicates she grew up being protected and loved by her parents, and had little idea of how dark the world could be.
Now, one day, she goes out and meets Severus Snape and learns all about Hogwarts and her magical abilities. "They" could refer to Petunia, who tells her to stay away from Snape, and looks down on Hogwarts. "They" could also refer to the society - Snape was a poor, odd boy from the worst part of the neighbourhood, and it was strange for Lily, who was from the better part of town, to engage with him. The usage of "creatures...in the dark" is on point, because Snape hid from Lily before revealing himself to her for the first time, and he eventually went on to become "dark" due to his ambition and unfortunate Slytherin friends.
He is the one tells her "dont you worry" about her magic, because it was normal. He loves her, and wishes to be with her, and to keep her "safe" but she realises he has turned too dark. So Lily runs away from his friendship, and finds her and James in danger from Lord Voldemort, which is perhaps why she starts screaming for help.
Just my interpretation :)

This is the scenery I having running through my head when I hear this:
A young girl, perhaps a princess, named Lily sits on one of the castle towers looking out onto the world in front of her with a nervous gaze. A colorful sunset blankets the sky. She crouches down behind the wall of the tower shyly, her head in her lap(Lilly was a little girl, afraid of the big wide world, she grew up in her castle walls).
She spends the evening there thinking to herself until dusk, and walks off. She goes out of the castle, and faces the dark but strangely welcoming woods in front of her. She pauses, then cautiously walks in(Now and then she tried to run, and then on the night of the setting sun, she went in the woods away so afraid all alone).
She folds her arms frightened as she recalls her father telling her stories of bad creatures, and the scene in her thoughts is shown. It suddenly disappears as the bushes in front of her rustle, and a melodic voice starts to enchantingly sing sweet promises to her. After the lyrics, with the music solo, a beautiful alien-like dragon creature of mainly night-sky black but with strangely shaped wings filled with swirling purple hues comes out the brush and lets out an enchanting smile. It’s eyes pulse with extra circles of pink and purple as it wraps its tail around her and pulls her close, hypnotizing her with its gaze(They told her, don’t go there, there’s creatures, who are hiding in the dark. Then something, came creeping, it told her “Don’t you worry just follow everywhere I go, top over the mountains and valley low, give you everything you’ve been dreaming of just let me in ooh ooh ooh. Everything you wanted gonna be the magic story you’ve been told and you’ll be safe under my control just let me im ooh ooh ooh).
She gets lost in her subconscious, and find herself seemingly walking on an extremely thin sheet of ice. It breaks and she falls, as she falls she wakes up to see the creature staring at her, and for a moment it glitches into something horrifying(She knew she was hypnotized, and walking on cold thin ice, then it broke, and she awoke again.)
She gets out of its grasp and runs as fast as her legs can carry her from the clearing it had taken her to while she was hypnotized back into the woods. She screams for help and pauses startled when she hears the melodic voice tempting her again.(Then she ran faster then, started screaming “Is there someone out there? Please help me! Come get me!” Behind her, she could hear it say “Follow everywhere I go, top over the mountains and valley low, give you everything you’ve been dreaming of just let me in ooh ooh ooh. Everything you wanted gonna be the magic story you’ve been told and you’ll be safe under my control just let me in ooh ooh ooh.”)
As another musical part begins, she runs and later trips over a hill and gets knocked out. She awakes the sound of the creature vocalizing and covers her ears as she wobbled back up. She stands up and looks back, and has a horrified expression. The creature is now stalking towards her menacingly, and glitches from its beautiful form to a terrifying thing of a large size, blood and black liquid dripping from its jowls, revealing what it truly is and it keeps glitching like this. It sings it’s message to her once again. She stares at it, but looks behind her and sees her castle home(“Everything you wanted gonna be the magic story you’ve been told and you’ll be safe under my control just let me in ooh ooh ooh).
As the refrain restarts and the final section of the song starts, she runs swiftly and escapes it snatching her(“Follow everywhere I go, top over the mountains and valley low, give you everything you’ve been dreaming of just let me in ooh ooh ooh”).
She find her way out of the woods and rushes towards the castle. She springs inside the entrance and quickly closes the gates, pretty much slamming them. She leans against the doors catching her breath, and covers her ears as the creature sings out a final time(Then she ran, faster then, started screaming “Is there someone out there? Please get me!” “Just let me in ooh ooh ooh”).
Hope someone enjoys this!

Could be about a girl named Lily who was always sheltered so she decided to run away and then realized how terrible the world was when she was almost kidnapped by a terrible person and it was then that she realized why her parents treated her how they did.
-
I Think it's story of Harry Potter, i mean Lilly is Lilly Evans and then there is Petunia who thinks that blah blah blha and then Snape is triing to help and then James appears and Lilly has a crush on him and ya then snape is soooo sad and they have a baby and then they died....
end of the story,
Then Dumbledore said to Petunia: Hey i just met you and this is crazy your sister is dead so here's her baby.
-
I think, that lily has been blocked from the outside world by her parents, wanting to protect her from the dangers. But she doesn’t believe them and runs away, wanting to see for herself. But then she steps out into a big, vast world, that crushes her, without her even realising it. As soon as she realises how right her parents had been, she wants nothing more, than to be back home.
-
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
I think that Lily is an princess or young queen (if her parents died a while ago and she has no one to take care of her) who is afraid of going out into the world but simultaneously is getting bored of life alone in the castle, and so she often tries to run away, however she always comes back. One particular time, she runs away into the woods where she meets a creature who is telling her to follow it and that it will keep her safe. Lily is hypnotized and is about to go with the creature then realizes that she is being tricked and tries to escape the creature. The creature follows her and continues to try and persuade her to go with it, and Lily keeps on running, until she screams for help and says the same thing that the creature says, and starts turning into the creature herself. Either that or at the end she hears the creature again.
