Alan Walker: Lily Meaning
Lily Lyrics
Afraid of the big, wide world
She grew up within her castle walls
Now and then she tried to run
And then on the night with the setting sun
She went in the woods away
So afraid, all alone
They warned her, don't go...
-
I think that this song is about a young girl who broke the rules and has to pay the price. The person\thing she has to pay to finds her but Lily refuses and runs, most likely from the thing, who I think is her Mother, or may e her ex or a abusive partner. Lily runs but the person follows her, and is telling her to trust them and not to run. Eventually Lily gives in or is captured, and then she knows she's in trouble. The mother\partner\abuser never lets her go and eventually they are at her deathbed telling her to finally trust them again, after all these years.
-
I think that it is about a girl (Lily) whose parents loved her a lot, but she still felt alone because they told her that the world was scary, so she started keeping everything to herself (She grew up inside her castle walls) and she tried to run away, to escape her depression, but it never really happens and it just follows her, telling her that if she submits to her depression good things will happen, but I know from experience that’s not really what happens. Maybe I’m interpreting this song how I want it to be but this is my honest opinion, it’s okay if you don’t agree.
-
I always thought it was kind of about a little girl named Lilly, and her parents sort of blocked her off from the world, but one day, by nightfall, she ran away as she had many times but this time she made it to the dark woods and got lost, people had warned her that the woods were dangerous, and then some creature came and started singing her a siren-like song of safety and dreams if she let it into her head, but she kept up her mental blockage until the darkness swallowed her, she soon woke from the trance and was even more lost, so she ran away, calling for help, and behind her, she could hear he creature start up its song again...she was getting surrounded by darkness again, but she pushed through and ran away again, calling for help, but her calls were cut short by the last verse of the creatures enchanting song...

okay so in the first few lines its obvious that she is a lil girl who has got no experience when it comes to dealing with the outside world. we can safely say its foreign or alien to her. She has lived in comfort which required 0 talks outside her safe heaven um probably. but the more we cage something or someone the larger the desire will be to get out at the first opportunity. so because she was "caged" the more she wanted to escape. but the question is, escape to what. where she wants to go, its alien to her. but she finds that "unknown" fascinating or new? because until and unless we dont experience something we wouldnt know how bad it is or it can get. time and again the song used creatures. now its used in a way as if the girl is being warned to be aware of these "creatures". now when we are warned? when something has the potential to harm us.but who carries the greatest potential to harm other than us humans? (this is purely what I firmly believe in) . it will be v easy to lure lilly into believing by these "creatures" that they will only do her good. because she carries nothing but 0 experience and innocence with her. which is the perfect deal any "creature" could ever get. I will just directly take you to my point. If there was a kid and someone had to harm or assault or harm in any possible way the only thing they will do is, win your trust. but how? because when nothing works, lies suffice. only that can satisfy. same here. to promise her that "we" will guide you is basically an invitation for them to feed off her later. when something wrong happens, you know. your body knows. your gut knows. no matter how fragile your understanding of the world or its peoplr may be. you will know it when something wrong happens or is going to happen. intuitions works like a miracle. like a blessing. she knew too what potential these creatures have when it comes to doing damage. "she knew she was hypnotized". just that thin ice had to break and all her expectations of the "perfect outside world" will come crashing down. and if the ice doesnt break now it could lead to more brutal things which would even surpass her intuitions.she screams for help. she demands help. but from whom? we are surrounded with "creatures". one leaves and the other catches us or could catch her. even the pitch of her voice or anyones voice matters when ask for help. because it could be silenced at the blink of a eye. she knew her decision to run from her lil world to the outside world is a mistake she will have to live with forever.because she demanded a bit too much from the real world who couldnt even live up to her innocent beliefs and expectations.

I feel like Lily is about someone going through some sort of mental health issue. Yes- I know that sounds kind of naive- but that's how I interpret it
First verse:
Lily was a little girl
Afraid of the big, wide world
She grew up within her castle walls
Now and then she tried to run
And then on the night with the setting sun
She went in the woods away
So afraid, all alone
Lily (the person that's being told in the song), was said to be a young girl (it could be a boy). She was afraid of the world (my perspective, she was afraid of how people would judge her). "She grew up within her castle walls", meaning that she grew up in darkness. "Now and then she tried to run and then on the night with the setting sun she went in the woods away so afraid, all alone". She tried to fight of the darkness". She tried to fight of the dark thoughts, but failed. Instead she went "in the woods away so afraid, all alone" meaning that she went into depression, and she was afraid because she thinks that nobody can help her.
Second verse:
They warned her, don't go there
There's creatures who are hiding in the dark
Then something came creeping
It told her, don't you worry just
"They warned her, don't go there there's creatures who are hiding in the dark". People tried to warn her that depression is treacherous. The "creatures of the dark" meant that there was going to be negative thoughts.
Third verse:
Follow everywhere I go
Top over the mountains or valley low
Give you everything you've been dreaming of
Just let me in, ooh
Everything you want in gold, I'll be the magic story you've been told
And you'll be safe under my control
Just let me in, ooh
Just let me in, ooh
"Then something came creeping-" a suicidal thought. "It told her, dont worry just follow everywhere I go top over the mountains or valley low give you everything you've been dreaming of just let me in... Everything you want in gold, I'll be the magic story you've been told and you'll be safe under my control just let me in...". She was considering of suicide, and thought of all the positive outcomes of it.
Fourth verse:
She knew she was hypnotized
And walking on cold thin ice
Then it broke, and she awoke again
Then she ran faster than
Start screaming, "Is there someone out there?"
Please help me
Come get me
Behind her, she can hear it say
"She knew she was hypnotized and walking on cold thin ice then it broke, and she awoke again". She became self-cautious and she knew she had depression. "Then she ran faster than start screaming, "Is there someone out there?" Please help me come get me". Lily tried to get help and it failed because it says "behind her, she can hear it say-" it meant that the suicidal thoughts found her.
Fifth verse:
Follow everywhere I go
Top over the mountains or valley low
Give you everything you've been dreaming of
Just let me in, ooh
Everything you want in gold, I'll be the magic story you've been told
And you'll be safe under my control
Just let me in, ooh
Just let me in, ooh
"-Follow everywhere I go top over the mountains or valley low give you everything you've been dreaming of just let me in... Everything you want in gold, I'll be the magic story you've been told and you'll be safe under my control just let me in...". It tried to "persuade" her of committing suicide and tell her of the happy outcomes of it again.
Sixth verse:
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Everything you want in gold, I'll be the magic story you've been told
And you'll be safe under my control
Just let me in, ooh
It kept trying to persuade her
Seventh verse:
Follow everywhere I go
Top over the mountains or valley low
Give you everything you've been dreaming of
Just let me in, ooh
Then she ran faster than
Start screaming, "Is there someone out there?"
Please help me
Just let me in, ooh
"...Then she ran faster than start screaming, "Is there someone out there?" Please help me" she tried to fight off the thoughts again and try to get help. While she did that, she can hear the thoughts echoing behind her mind, which explains on why it says "Just let me in...".

My first impression was that the creature is a demon that's trying to control Lily and she can't escape it. It's kinda a dark song. (Though I guess a demon might not fit the whole "true story" thing)
-
Lily was a little girl
(She’s naive)
Afraid of the big, wide world She grew up within her castle walls
(shunned her whole life forcing her to remain alone)
Now and then she tried to run And then on the night with the setting sun She went in the woods away So afraid, all alone
(Wanting nothing more than to be loved she decides to take a chance)
They warned her, don't go there There's creatures who are hiding in the dark
(people have warned her of others who will take advantage and lie to her)
Then something came creeping It told her, “don't you worry just Follow everywhere I go Top over the mountains or valley low Give you everything you've been dreaming of Everything you want in gold, I'll be the magic story you've been told And you'll be safe under my control Just let me in”
(She met someone too good to be true)
She knew she was hypnotized And walking on cold thin ice
(She’s in love. The words of those who warned her remain in the back of her head but she stays)
Then it broke, and she awoke again
(The person of her dreams breaks her heart and shes see’s the truth)
Then she ran faster than Start screaming, "Is there someone out there? Please help me Come get me”
(She’s desperate for love and continues to search)
Behind her, she can hear it say “Follow everywhere I go Top over the mountains or valley low Give you everything you've been dreaming of Everything you want in gold, I'll be the magic story you've been told And you'll be safe under my control
(She ends up in the same situation she was before)
Everything you want in gold, I'll be the magic story you've been told
And you'll be safe under my control
Follow everywhere I go
Top over the mountains or valley low
Give you everything you've been dreaming of
Just let me in, ooh
Then she ran faster than
Start screaming, "Is there someone out there?"
Please help me
Just let me in, ooh
(She never learns her lesson and falls in love again and again only to have her heart broken) -
I think lily is us that are curious and deppressed lily runs from home and finds the darker side of life it tells her to let it control her. I also think it could be her getting posessed by the darker side (just my opinoin).
-
I just think this song is a girl who is afraid of what people might think of her, but she got bored of being hidden away all the time. The forest is the world itself, horrible and cruel. They are corrupted by demons, and I feel Lily is the cross between the good and bad. That's basically the gist.
-
I think that it is an alternate universe Snape and Lily. I'm a potterhead so this obviously makes sense to me, and the breaking ice is when Snape called her a mudblood.
-
Sadly, I think it’s clearly about a young girl trapped by a pimp. This is one of the main paths to prostitution; it starts when a young naïve person(it absolutely happens to boys too) has some metal health issues, or abusive/negligent parents, is in the foster system, or a myriad of other things that could make a child unsafe in the world. Those same children also don’t have any guidance from trusted guardians, they know the “shouldn’t” do certain things just by observing society/media... but no one they love and trust is warning them. So when a predator comes to them promising them the world and saying all the right things (cause the predator is practiced at this) they fall prey. If they try to escape later- either their drug addiction, lack of financial resources, shame at what they have “done” (in reality how they were abused), and having no family network...they fall back to the only stability and (false) security they have - the predator.
-
I think lily here is a girl who is being forced to succumb to her dominants wishes. He keeps on trying to provide her with a false sense of security and the ice breaking means that she has finally gotten ahold of things and now with all that panic she is afraid
-
I only think that this song is about.. A girl who wants to do something against her parents will or she doesn't want her parents controlling her life choices since she thinks she's old enough to be independent and now able to make choices but one thing she doesn't know is that adulthood is very very depressing and hard interpreting the creatures haunting her mind. depression, anxiety, stress and etc. The thin ice that broked is her realising how hard it is really is, how cruel it can really be. And now she tries to go back when it's too late.
English is not my main language but I tried :)

I think the song is just supposed to mean lots of things. It says it's a true story so it has to be realistic. That eleiminates, the "Creatures" are something else
-
Lily is a princess who will become queen soon so her parents are very over protective and she wants freedom so one day she runs away into the woods and meets a creature that wants to overthrow the royal family and Lily let's her into the castle and the creature hypnotizes lily then a little while later she she wakes up and starts screaming for help and when no one comes she runs away.
