Alec Benjamin: Boy in the Bubble Meaning
Song Released: 2017
Boy in the Bubble Lyrics
Stepped to the gate and I’m all alone
I had chicken on the plate but the food was cold
Then I covered up my face so that no one knows
I didn’t want trouble
I’m the boy in the bubble
But then came trouble
When...

#1 top rated interpretation:I think that this could be interpreted differently but at it's core, 'boy in the bubble' is about a kid who is getting bullied and feels alone hence the line'I'm the boy in the bubble'. The bullied kid understands why his bully does what he does. The bully has a troubled home life and has to deal with an alcoholic abusive father and takes this out on the kid. The kid is in his own bubble and is trying to stay out of trouble but the bully keeps on trying to pop it. This is just my interpretation. Everyone can interpret it differently.

#2 top rated interpretation:The boy in the bubble, the boy getting bullied, clearly feels alone in some way, given the bubble. And rather than fighting back, he simply let the bully beat him. He says that the he doesn't fight back to give the bully the satisfaction. Then there's the part in which perspective is reversed. The bully is dealing with his drunk and abusive father. It shows that the boy in the bubble is trying be empathetic. In a way, the boy who is the bully and the boy who was the victim really aren't that different. I mean, different situation sure, but how their situations are making them feel really isn't that different. The bully probably feels alone with his situation. The way I personally would interpret it, is that the boy who is being bullied doesn't want to give the bully the satisfaction by fighting back, and yet at the same time, he is being empathetic for the bully. He says in the song, "Well there's no excuse for the things he did, but there's a lot at home he's dealing with because his was drunk since he was a kid. And I hope one he'll say to him, 'put down those bubbles, and that belt buckle, in this broken bubble." This shows the boy in the bubble understands. Or at least is trying to.

#3 top rated interpretation:Could the boy in the bubble and the bully be the same person? He was at war with himself. His father was abusive but his mother was kind and oblivious to it because of separate homes. He could have been self harming; "Punch my face
Do it 'cause I like the pain" could mean that he wants to feel something other than sadness. Just me spitballing so I could be wrong. -
The way I see it is that after ages of being bullied his 'Bubble' finally burst and he ended up fighting back against the bully, but he knows the horror and terrible personal life of the bully in question, and he wants to be the bigger person by helping the bully with his problems, but can't because the bully denies it, and I can also easily picture the Boys ('Boy in the bubble' and the bully) as brothers, potentially divorced parents, and that would be why Boy in the bubble (Alec) knows about the bullies terrible life, and why he still cares enough to want to help.
-
I think this is about how a boy who is shy but also wants to prove himself come up against the bully again and again to try to beat him, so he would keep the bully away and avoid trouble, but was also too shy or nervous to tell his pops about what was going on.

I think that this song has alot of deep and dark meaning. I think it's about how this little kid is being abused by her drunk father every day and noticed that when things go wrong boy in the bubble ( Alec) doesn't get faces by it because he is in his own little bubble and dosnet pay attention to the stuff outside the bubble and so the bully takes out his sadness and anger out on him and trys to pop his bubble. The kid in the bubble understands what he's feeling like as I think of the lyrics "it's 6:48 and I step in the gate and im all alone I had chicken on the plate but the food is cold" as him saying that his parent isn't able to take good care of him.
-
I feel like how Alec is expressing everything with so much emotion makes me wonder “Is this about him?” Did this happen? But the song talks about how the bully has a bad home life and needed to take his stress out on someone else. The kid that is being bullied feels empathy for the bully so he doesn’t fight and becomes a punching bag. But the bully wants the kid to fight back, but he isn’t so the bully doesn’t get the satisfaction of a fight. So he’s helping but at the same time not helping.
-
My interpretation is that the one getting bullied is understanding of the bullies reasons. At one point of the song it does Go into the bullies perspective, which in that verse indicates the bullies has an abusive and alcoholic father.
The bullie, bullies that kid to let out his stress -
An isolated or “in a bubble” boy is recently targeted by a bully. As well as fighting back, the boy empathises with the bully for the abuse he goes through at home.
-
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
I think it means that a kid was getting bullied and he forgave the person because he understood the why the bully was bulling
-
A good song saying DON'T BEAT UP KIDS and how he accepted the bullying and understood the kids problem
-
This song is very deep with meaning to me, and it’s like Alec Benjamin was the boy in the bubble that is trying to be closed and protected in the bubble, and a bully is trying to pop it, but Alec understands what the bully is dealing with.
-
My interpretation is that this song kinda represents me because I have a lot going on at home but I take it out on kids at school and it gives me a satisfaction but not them. I'am the one to suffer because YOU know that you did something wrong. If the bully is going through a lot at home all you can do is be nice to them instead of giving them another reason to get in trouble at home.
-
This song clearly means that a boy got into a fight and he could understand the bullies point of view, his father was a heavy drinker so the bully had a lot to deal with at home. But I think the main point of this song is (1) Think beyond the situation like the dad heavily drinking, (2) and Don't bully, and if your getting bullied..... Don't fight back, maybe try to defuse the situation.
