Must Have Been the Wind Lyrics
At first I thought that I was dreamin'
But then I heard the voice of a girl
And it sounded like she'd been cryin'
Now I'm too worried to be sleepin'
So I took the elevator to...

#1 top rated interpretation:I think similarly to the other comments. His upstairs neighbor is probably going through some sort of domestic abuse. It said her sweater was zipped up to her chin. This is probably to conceal bruises or cuts. He went on with his business, knowing that because he didn't have all the facts, he didn't exactly have the right to intrude. He played the song "Lean On Me" to let her know that he was there. Also, he invited her in his apartment, saying that she could stay for an hour or two. And that when she deemed herself ready, she could talk to him about the noise he heard. It's basically a song about kindness towards people. People you may not even know, because everyone, at one point or another, goes through something.

#2 top rated interpretation:This song is about a girl who is going through some things and her downstairs neighbor is worried, so he goes to check on her. The part where he says "sweater zipped up to her chin" means she was hiding her bruises or what she or someone else has done to her. He goes back downstairs and he thinks about it, so he goes back up to her place and checks to make sure she's okay because he don't want to leave her alone if she's not okay. Then he goes back downstairs and plays lean on me just so she knows she has a friend to talk to and lean on, and if she still don't want to talk about it, then he'll leave her alone and say that it must have been the wind.

That it is about gossip and the wind is carrying it around and she is so made she could be throwing things out of anger or it could be a mixture of both abusive situation and rumors
-
A young girl is being abused at home. Objects are being thrown and she has visible injuries which she hides with her sweater. When asked about the problems by anyone who hears, she quickly dismisses the abuse and is reluctant to say anything.
-
this song is about a girl who has been probably abused recently and she doesn´t wanna tell anyone and he is worried about her and wants her to trust him so he plays lean on me and will wait for her.
-
The song is about a bit who heard glass shattering and crying from the apartment above his. He goes to see what happened and a girl, supposedly the one who was crying, opened up and said that nothing happened, but the boy knows otherwise. After he leaves, he heard the noises and goes to check again, but the girl keeps denying anything happened. So the boy plays Lean On Me so that the girl knows she can trust him. He assures the girl that he will help her and she can tell him when she's ready, but he won't tell anyone unless she wants him to.
