#1 top rated interpretation:I was very curious as to whether this song was about having an actual drug addiction, or if it was a metaphor. I found out from an interview with him that Dopamine is a metaphor for social media and how Alec felt he was addicted to social media and the views, likes, etc.

On Instagram Alec posted a story about his ADHD diagnosis and how it impacted his life. His brain like any ADHD brain has issues regulating dopamine and thats about the title. Lyrics entry saying that he can't break the habit means that if he breaks only one habit then the rest falls behind and he is unable to sustain his everyday life to the point he's breaking down.
