Avril Lavigne: Goodbye Meaning
Goodbye Lyrics
goodbye my love
i can't hide
can't hide what has to come
i have to go, i have to go, i have to go
and leave you alone
but always know, always know, always know
that i love you so
i love you so, i love you...
-
I think it means that a family member is saying goodbye to someone they love, because they must go and have no other option.
To me, this is the saddest song in the world.
It makes me cry every time. -
I believe it is talking about a person that hates themselve and is always trying to run from themselve this is why they can't hide and tries to distract themselve but eventually they always catchup with themselve...love you Gorgeous
-
Lol its really about her dying from her disease nd either saying goodbye to her clone or lover
-
I think it tells the story of a mother who is unable to take care of her child, and is saying goodbye to him for the last time before he/she is taken away to a home or someplace like that :( I cry every time I listen to it :(
-
She once commented on the song saying this is a very personal song and she douts if she'd ever sing this in a concert. From the context (time of production and her non-verbal expressions when speaking about the song) I understand that this is the song for Deryck Whibley. They were together for more than 6 years and they parted ways allegedly because their lives went different directions and could not find a way to reconcile the differences, not because they do not love or respect each other anymore. It's very painful, and the song captures it perfectly. So much so that many of the comments here believe it is related to death. In a sense a breakup is comparable to death, given that the other person may be exiting your life forever. This is one of my favorite songs, having helped me through my worst breakup.

I couldn't put my finger on it, but reading some interpretations made me think that, maybe it can mean suicide. "Goodbye my love, always know that i love you so". It just reminds me of when i would try committing suicide that right before i would attempt to do it, i would remember all the lovely times i had with my friends, with my lover.
-
This song, to me is about suicide.
goodbye, goodbye,
goodbye my love
i can't hide
can't hide what has to come
What I get from this is I have no other options left but to leave, I know you love me but you have to let go.
It says that I feel I have lived for all I had to live for as my life is only going downhill. -
Saying goodbye to someone you love either relationship or family my family played this song at my sons balloon release. When he passed away.
-
I think that she is there to have an affair and the song is actually from her lover that has ended the affair.
-
I think it's a song about someone who has died and is saying goodbye to all the people that loved him and were left behind.
:( it's the kind of song you would play at a funeral:( -
I think of it as a song about suicide. That's just how it gets to me, though. I almost commited suicide listening to this song, because you have to leave but you still love everyone who was there for you.
-
Its about her ex-husband "Deryck Whibley" saying that their relationship wont work but that its not the end. The reason they broke up was because she said she was too young to be married.
She's a real inspiration to people who went through a break up or a divorce... Love you Avril <3
