Avril Lavigne: Darlin Meaning
Darlin Lyrics
I know you're trying, real hard not to turn your head away
Pretty darlin... Face tomorrow, tomorrow's not yesterday
Yesterday, oh oh
Chorus:
Pretty please, I know it's a...

#1 top rated interpretation:"Darlin, you're hiding in the closet once again." The girl's not a lesbian. Shes just depressed. When teenagers are depressed they just sit in their rooms and Don't communicate.
"Start smiling" the singer is trying to help her be happy again
" I know you're trying, real hard not to turn your head away"
Meaning the girl's trying hard to stay alive and happy and not commit suicide. -
This song seems to be about sexual abuse and it's so reassuring how she says "it's not your fault" so many times. SA victims a lot of times have trouble realizing that. There also isn't much loved ones can do to help, but love them the best they can, as she puts it so well. I wish she knew how much this song has helped me

This is written to this person who's probably going through a very hard time in life. Where you feel alone, wherever you look it's dark. It suffocates you- the closet. Hiding in it represents being alone suffocating in the dark. She's telling this person that it's ok tomorrow will be a new day unlike yesterday and she knows exactly what it's like cause she's felt that way too.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I think it means the girl is going through a hard time and or is feeling like it's her fault or she's not good enough and she's saying it's ok I know what you're going and i'll help you through this but it's not your fault and you are good enough

I think this song is talking to someone who has been hurt and needs someone. In the song the lyrics 'I know it's a drag' is explaining that: Even though something bad is happening, and it seems like it never ends, sometimes you just have to put up with it and find a way to live and enjoy your life. Because at one point or another everyone goes through at least one rough stage in their life, so this is her telling anyone in pain who listens to the song, that everyone goes through things that are bad, even her and that she cares about them and that it's not their fault regardless of the situation.
-
i think that the song is very beautiful, and i think avril is talking to a teenager maybe, and maybe someone who has been bullied and is hiding away from all the pain, but no one can help her, all they can do is be there for her and love her (my opinion)
again a lovely song!

I think the subject in this song is the same subject as the girl in "Nobody's Home." She's probably going through a hard time, whether it be she had recently come out to her Conservative Christian family as a lesbian or bisexual or is recovering from a drug habit. Avril was in a similar situation, whether it be admitting her own bisexuality to her family, or had experimented with drugs and admitting to her family what she had done.
-
I think it means when a loved one is going through a hard time and she is saying that the best she can do is love them.
-
I think of many different things. Most of them have all been said. But I also think of her speaking to the LGBT community. Even though she's not part of it.
-
I doubt this is really what it is, but I always thought that it was made for one of her friends kids or something like that. Maybe that kids parents are divorcing because most parents are always saying that its not their fault. And the song also says that they don't have any trust. So that's my interpretation.

When i hear this song i think of a sibling or a family member that was put in the same situation and their telling them that they understand and want to help but they don't know what else to do....
its a very beautiful song

i have the dvd she didnt say exactly but it was personal(she had this song before she even made "let go" so im thinking since she been singing since she was like 5 or some young age, its her mom talking to her, so she using what her mom said and put it into a song. "Pretty please, I know it's a drag
Wipe your eyes and put up your head
I wish you could be happy instead
There's nothing else I can do
Then love you the best I can
Darlin, I was there once a while I go... " that is a parent talking to a kid. its probably about her first break up and how her mom talked to her, probably good guess. -
I think it someone is obviously hurting. A girlfriend tries to help her get through her pain. From the lines about hiding in the closet, I believe the girl is lesbian and her girlfriend, which is the narrator of the song, is trying to help her 'come out of the closet' and start acceptib who she is, perhaps with the help of the narrators love for her.
Maybe not the best interpretation, but this is what I think it means. -
Avril Lavigne has been through some very rough times herself, just like everyone has. She is trying to say that sometimes she or one of her friends gets upset but its not their fault. She is very supportive in this song.
