Not Now Lyrics

Come here, please hold my hand, Lord, now
Help me, I'm scared please show me how
To fight this, God has a master plan
And I guess, I am in his demand

Please save me, this time I cannot run
And I'll see, you when this is done
And now I,...

This is one of my fav blink songs. Its just so beautifully composed, the words are really meaningful.

This song is about death, saying goodbye and the realisation that this death will have an impact on the ones he/she leaves behind, or rather that one person he/she can't live without that they have to leave behind. The song title in itself suggests that he/she doesn't want to go. NOT NOT anyway.

    The first verse:

Come here, please hold my hand, Lord, now
Help me, I'm scared please show me how
To fight this, God has a master plan
And I guess, I am in his demand

Is about the person trying to be strong about the inevitable, they want to be strong about the situation and is asking for God's help. "God has a master plan and I guess, I am in his demand" is suggesting that God's plan is that their life will be taken. And his demand is meaning that he is needed, that it is his destiny to leave this earth and be in heaven or wherever else you go after death and his time is now.

    The second verse:

Please save me, this time I cannot run
And I'll see, you when this is done
And now I, have come to realize
That you are, the one who's left behind

The person doesn't want to die but they know that they can't stop the inevitable. They can't run away from their destiny and the way their life is going to be taken away from them.
They still have faith that they will see that person who they have to leave behind, again in heaven perhaps?
But the realisation that they are still leaving back someone they hold dear hurts them.

    The chorus:

    Please stay until I'm gone
I'm here hold on to me
    I'm right here waiting

They want that person to stay with them, in the hospital room, or in their bed at home, before they pass away and when they pass away.
But they are trying to make the most of this moment by still holding onto what they have left of life, and of love before they are taken away.'

    The third verse:

I see, the light it feels good
And I'll come, back soon just like you would
It's use less, my name has made the list
And I wish, I gave you one last kiss

The person feels themselves leaving this life. But they want to see their loved one again, whether it be watching over them or visiting them in their dreams. Because they feel that if the loved one was in the same position they would do the same. That's how strongly this person feels towards the one they are leaving.
"Its useless my name has made the list" this line I'm abit confused about. I believe it could mean two things.
It could either mean that this person name has made the list in an obituary. Stating that they have died or will die. or it could mean made the list in terms of God's list as to whom he has to take away from this earth.
And they wish they had been able to give their loved one, one last kiss before they passed on.

    the repetition of:

    Please stay until I'm gone
I'm here hold on to me
    I'm right here waiting
And take my one last breath
    And don't forget
That I will be right here waiting

Is the same as what I have mentioned earlier. But the last three lines, are about living life for those brief few seconds more, to take one last breath of life and the one they love, and letting them know, they will be waiting for them, when its their time to go.

Tom Delonge: "This song is about when you die, and you've just realized you died. You're looking at your lady, trying to say goodbye, and you can see her and you know she's there, but she can't see you and it's too late."

i think that this song is about a person that is dying and he's thinking that his name has made the list so there's no use in fighting it. The song also states the lyrics "this time I can not run" which shows that this person can not escape death. The person is thinking about all the people that he's leaving behind, and he see's the light and it feels good to him. He's also telling everyone whos with him to stay until he's gone, don't leave until he's passed on.and that he will see everybody that he's left behind again one day. To me this blink-182's best song and will be forever, it is so much more emotional than any other song that they have made, Blink-1824ever!

I honestly beleive that with the timing of it being written, and they lyrics, along with the music video, not to mention the countless interviews where they all admitted that they were fighting, it seem as if this song was written for the band to get better. Tom (I believe was the one who wrote it), wrote it to express his true feelings about the band, and how he wanted them to quit fighting all the time, and to continue making music.

i believe that the person singing the song is not actually dead yet, but insted waiting to die. However it is clear that he will die 'my name has made the list', 'this time i cannot run' ect. And there are still things left unsaid and still undone that he wanted 2 do before he was left in this helpless state 'i wish, i gave you one last kiss'. The chorus 'please stay until im gone' simply means, dont leave my side until there is no other choice but to say goodbye, but while im still here, dont leave me

I think it basically means he's trying to say good bye to everyone before he leaves

Why does everybody think this song is about dying? Morbid fans if you ask me. I think it's about him leaving for a while (not death); the give away is "And now I, Have come to Realize/That you are, the one who's left behind". Or does he just want all his friends to die so they're not left behind? I doubt it. He's left for something good, better than before and wants his friend/girlfriend to be with him because he does still miss his past. And the "Last breath" part isn't literal. It's like like the deep breath you take when you realize something big is going to happen. Its his last deep breath before leaving his past situation and heading to a new (and better) one.

I agree with most of the comments here, it doesn't really need very much explanation, mostly the guy is scared of death and needs God to help him through hence

'Come here, please hold my hand, Lord, now
Help me, I'm scared please show me how
    To fight this,'

    and when the

'I see, the light it feels good
And I'll come, back soon just like you would
It's use less, my name has made the list'

It means he knows he is on 'the list' which is the Book of Life, the list of names that make it into Heaven,

    and at the end says
    "And don't forget
That I will be right here waiting"
I feel that means waiting in Heaven for his girl:P

well thats my interpretation, agree, don't agree, whatever

    G.H.

could be about them leaving for long amounts of time and perhaps listened to by the wives back home to remember that no matter where they go and for how long they are loved.

Oh my GOD is everyone blind! you are all saying the same things, and this one guy saying ""This time I cannot run" means that he he can die" OF COURSE HE CAN HE'S A MAN!!!!

Just listen to the sing, it doesn't need interpreting. It's pretty obvious!

It is NOT about saying goodbye to the fans.
why would they get together after they broke up and make this song?
It was already recorded just never released.
And I also believe it's about someone dying and saying goodbye to everyone.
Not the band saying goodbye to fans.

Many people think this song is about dieing, but listen to this...
At the beginning of the song (during the intro) you will hear a female voice whisper "blink we miss you" (turn it up nice and loud to hear it well).

With that in mind I think this song is referring to the breaking up of the band - blink 182

One may think it is about someone who is dying speaking to their loved ones, but instead (in a metaphorical sense) this song can be seen as the blink 182 speaking out to its fans because they know that they are going to disband soon...

I guess its just a thought, I'm probably wrong. Nevertheless I love this song and blink as well!

Tom explained it on the making of this song...I have no idea which video it is but its on my favorites on youtube. He says it's about you just found out you died and your standing there in front you you "lady" and she can't hear your. Your trying to say goodbye but you can't. The original lyrics for the chorus are: "Let's dance until I'm gone I'm here hold on Goodbye, I'm Leaving. I love this song, one of my favorite Blink songs.

I always thought this song was just about leaving someplace and not knowing when you were coming back. but when I was with my grandfather when he was dying, all of a sudden it hit me...the song is about dying...its saying how God has made his decision on your life, and how you wish you could go back and do all these things.

Ok for all of you this song was written by tom during the tour after the release of enema of the state. Yes it was written before toms daughter ava existed and no it was not supposed to be released on toypaj or self-titled (which is really just untitled not self said by mark). It was to be an unreleased song(like others before them) but after the break up of blink a greatest hits album was started and this song along with another girl another planet would be placed on it. That's it

The song 'not now' was released on the Atticus CD in 2001, around the same time as Take off your pants and jacket. It's the Atticus album with the pink cover, CHECK IT OUT if you don't believe me."

Didn't believe you, checked it out, still don't. That's just not true.
