   In this song, tom's is expresing his feelings about gonig on his first date with a girl. He goes through what most guys go through and as the time gets closer to when he meets her, he gets anxious, asking questions. "Is it cool if i hold your hand?", "Would you guess that i didnt know what to wear". He uses contradictions such as "Do you like my stupid hair?" Because he wants to please her, as mentioned earlier, he doesnt know what the girl is looknig for, what she likes etc. When the chorus comes in, tom expresses a rush to get things done and enjoy the night as much as possible, "Lets go." "Don't wait."
   The second verse is sweet talknig the girl, "When you smile i melt inside", "i'm jealous of everybody in the room." And by the end of the verse he's talking about how he is getting more nervous as they get closer together, "I dread the thought of our very first kiss, a target that im probably gonna miss."

   I think this is what it's about, and if it's not well, I will still think this because it why I like the song. I think it's about a guy and he's on the first date, and doesn't know what this girl is like... She might not think some things are cool, and he doesn't know what kind of guys she likes. Anyway, it asks all these questions in the verses of what he's thinking. But in the chorus he's all excited, and it's what he really wants to say but doesnt want to risk it. So it's like he's all nervous in the verses, but the chorus is what he wants the date to go like.

   I think this song is about a guy that is really afraid of messing up on his date, so he takes all posible precautions and wants more time so he can get more ready than he already is. The video is the coolest!

   I think this song is actually a metaphor for life, and the journey we all go through.

   meaning a date with fate or destiny. he has transposed his actual feelings of fear of the unknown into a light hearted pop song about girls, but he's actually talking about the battle raging inside himself between good and evil.
   
   'when you smile i melt inside', the good side of him
   'im jealous of everybody in the room' - the envious bad side, also the line
   'please dont look at me with those eyes', the devil seeing straight through him

   Whoa the second person who posted an interpretation on this song is a MORON!! What the hell? "the video is the coolest"! That person is just a teenage vegetable decaying in front of the television, and whatever appears to them as out of the ordinary is "the coolest". The slow decline of intelligence in today's youth is because of people like "anonymous", dreaming of Pete Wentz taking them away in shining armor. Face it: IT WON'T HAPPEN. First date cannot be interpreted by someone other than the band. It is impossible that it is that straightforward. The other people hit the nail on the head by being less descriptive, but the whole "precautions" thing just had me squirming in my chair. The song is most probably a metaphor about a first hockey game when you are nervous and uptight because it is your first game against all these people, and they will all judge you. The other interpretations left all these metaphors possible, but the second anonymous person just ruined the song and is an embarassment for all that blink-182 stood for.

    I thinks its sooo cool this song because this is what normally everyone would feel in their first date. You are scared of what she/he will think of you. And its true that you are around with a lot of people and you get kind of jealous and you just want to make them disappear and just stay with your date and in the night you want it to last FOREVER... This song is soo cool!!!

    He is scared of his very first date because he has no experience with ladies and fears he will screw things up. He enjoys the time while being nervous at the same time. Thus "Forever and ever, let’s make this last forever." which is repeated several times throughout the song.
