Blue October: Hate Me Meaning
Hate Me Lyrics
If your dreaming are you dreaming of me?
I can't believe you actually picked me.)
(”Hi Justin, this is your mother, and it's 2:33 on Monday afternoon.
I was just calling to see how you were doing.
You...

I think it starts out he's trying to say I need space, leave me alone. "And will you never try to reach me? it is I that wanted space" starting to try to get his mom to kind of start to lay off and forget him because in the end I think he kills himself. He was just trying to make it easy on her but the song is kinda like a suisise note to her like saying sorry for all the bad shit he's done to her and how he made her life like hell with worry. Then she see's him dieing, his mom comes closer to him, he's like" And with a sad heart I say bye to you and wave". Then he starts to regret it and starts saying I wasnt strong enough "And like a baby boy I never was a man"and as he's dying he wants to come back. Thats when he starts saying" Until I saw your blue eyes cry and I held your face in my hand
And then I fell down yelling “Make it go away!”
Just make a smile come back and shine just like it used to be
And then she whispered “How can you do this to me?” At the very end it says make her hate me so she can do all the things she wanted to do before all those bad things happend with him. but that's just my opinion. -
Really I think the songself, minus the video is about a son (since the singer IS a guy) and his mum of course.
I think the son is basically saying that he has made his mother worry about him and his problems so much that she hasnt lived her own life to the fullest. He is telling her "move on, forget me and hate me so you can live" in my oppinion. The scenario of the video interprits the mother dying but I don't think the song nessicarily means that. When he says "just make her smile come back and shine like it used to be" he could also be meaning that his own depression, addictions and problems could have led her to her own depression.
Meh
My oppinion...
tired from final exams so this was botched/ -
I think the mother died and he regretted having used so many drugs.
She was there for him and he remembers it all too well
Especially now that he is clean.
What makes me think she died is the lyric, "Just make a smile come back and shine just like it used to be"
And the whisper that he hears is only in his brain. -
I believe, by watching the video and hearing the lyrics that he put his mother through a lot of worrying and grief because of what he was going through in life and she couldn't take it anymore, he finally brought her to her death. Then after realizing what he had done, he takes his own life.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I think the song is about either the son or the mother passing away. The son committed suicide from all of his troubles and wants the mother to forget about him. Or the mother died and the song is apologizing to her. He is so hurt that he doesn't want to think of her.

If you take a look at the video you will see that there is a mother character which interacts with the singer. If you listen to the album version of the song, you will also notice at the beginning of the song a phone message from a mother-type of character. (ie. wondering where he is, if he's ok. etc. and the voice is of an older woman) the beginning of the song talks about the blocking out thoughts of "you". much of the song is apologetic to in the way that he's saying, "leave me so that you can be better off". He talks about leaving so that "you" can be better. from what I can make of it, it's a song to his mother or perhaps someone who cared deeply for him. He's apologizing for the things he's done and is now realizing that he only causes trouble for her, so he's leaving. He has memories of her but ultimately wants her to forget him so that they can both move on with their lives.
