Christina Perri: Butterfly Meaning
Butterfly Lyrics
You keep on passing by
You never land inside my hands
Your home is in the sky
And there’s a lesson waiting to be learned
The fire starters always get the burns
And the good guys never get the girl
And shooting...
-
I think this song is about wanting to be in a relationship with someone, who just will not commit. "You only know how to fly" meaning the guy only knows how to leave, as opposed to staying. She feels as if she's giving so much to a guy that won't reciprocate these feelings or won't settle with her. And no matter what she does, she still has this little glimmer of hope that maybe he'll change his mind, and realize everything she's done and given up for him.
"So I pray each night you change your mind
And maybe I am worth the fight
But I am wrong every time
You only know how to fly" -
This is a song about not feeling like you are good enough for someone else. No matter how hard you try or how hard you fight, they keep on passing by you. It also says how people who do good things don't get rewarded (fire starters always get the burns and the good guys never get the girls), this also infers that she feels like no matter how good or well-behaved or how much she gives away, she won't be rewarded. This is most likely about a guy who didn't think that she was worth it, but it could be about a friend that isn't really a good one or even a family member who never is proud of anything she does.
