Dashboard Confessional: The Best Deceptions Meaning
The Best Deceptions Lyrics
I heard about your souvenirs.
I heard about the cool breeze, in the cool nights,
and the cool guys that you spent them with.
Well I guess I should have heard of them from you.
I guess I should have heard of them from...

We know it´s about cheating, but I like it because it´s painful, it´s angry and it´s strong at the same time. The guy is hurt, but has made up his mind about this. He doesn´t want this girl in his life anymore. He still loves her, but he´s so angry at her, and he´s so surehe wants her out. That´s where the pain comes from. He´s waiting for blood to flow to his fingers, because he wants to just get over her and move on, I mean, it´s obvious that she did not one, but a whole bunch of terrible things, but it´s that feeling you´ll know if you´ve been there, where you wonder "if it was your fault, why do I feel so bad?!" so his hands are cold. He´s suffering, but he knows he´ll be okay. The blood will flow back tohis fingers, he won´t be "frozen", his heart will beat again, and push that blood to his fingers, he´ll be warm again, but for now, he´ll ignore the phone, and preferes to say nothing...

It's simple, the "I'm waiting for blood" simply refers to him cutting his wrists.. That's why his hands are cold, and that's why he won't be alright until his hands get warm. The phone rings, but he can't go to it cause he's bleeding to death and he thinks that's the best thing that can happen so he says "You're calling too late..."

I totally agree with the one before me but I don't agree with the interpretation about the blood flowing to fingers and being alright when his hands get warm. He begins the last verse with "I'm waiting for the blood to flow to my fingers. I'll be alright when my hands get warm." This can be compared to the first verse when he sings "I heard about the cool breeze, in the cool nights, and the cool guys that you spent them with." I think its better compared to doing exactly what she did with him. He tried to get back at the cheating girlfriend by not talking to her and ignoring her and I also think he went out on those cool nights with the cool breeze and the cool [girls] to show her how he felt (especially after he heard she regretted it) and he's maybe hoping she'll finally come tell him how she feels, instead of having her friends do it. "ill be alrite when my hands get warm" means he's waiting for someone (maybe the cheating girlfriend, like I made mention of last sentence) to come along and help him move on from what happened.

This song is pretty simple. It's about a cheating girlfriend who likes to cover her tracks. She, sadly, doesn't have good enough friends to keep word from getting back to her boyfriend, the singer. The singer tells her to "Kiss me hard because this will be the last time that I let you." He follows that up by reminding her that when she comes crawling back that same kiss will undoubtably have been given to other people and he will know and it will remind him to keep her away.
Later in the song he hears, through the same sources, that she regrets what she did. He says that he should have heard it from her.
He begins the last verse with "I'm waiting for the blood to flow to my fingers. I'll be alright when my hands get warm." This can be compared to the first verse when he sings "I heard about the cool breeze, in the cool nights, and the cool guys that you spent them with." By saying that his hands are cold he is saying that she found someone to keep her warm on those cool nights she should have been alone and now she isn't around to keep him warm. He'll be alright when he finds someone to keep him warm or when he takes the cold way in which she handled the breakup and forgets it. He wants to treat her the same way and so he doesn't return her calls and prevents her from ever getting a "long goodbye."
