Dashboard Confessional: Belle of the Boulevard Meaning
Belle of the Boulevard Lyrics
Out on the Boulevard
The sound of an old guitar
Is saving you from sinking
It's a long way down, It's a long way
Back like you never broke
You tell a dirty joke
He touches your leg
And thinks He's getting close
For...

#1 top rated interpretation:It's about a girl who cannot find "the one" for a long-term relationship.
She has a one night stand with a guy, giving him what he wants, and she hopes that in return he will stick with her.
"Back like you never broke, you tell a dirty joke
He touches your leg, he thinks he's getting close
For now you let him
Just this once, just for now
And just like that, it's over "
And it is also saying don't give up, "the one" is still waiting out there, you just have to find him.
"Don't turn away, dry your eyes, dry your eyes
Don't be afraid or keep it all inside, all inside
When you fall apart, dry your eyes, dry your eyes
Life is always hard, for the belle of the boulevard"
I always thought 'Belle of the boulevard' was like the rose in a thornbush or something along those lines. -
One who is looking for love or a relationship and can't seem to find one.He likes the girl but not his ideal.

I think it's about a prostitute: Belle of the boulevard. Out there, men use her to obtain pleasure. The line "He touches your leg, and he thinks he's getting close" depicts an act of sex. "For now you let him, just this once, just for now and just like that; it's over." She tells a "dirty joke" to pick men up. To show she's a prostitute. "You take a drink to get your courage up, can you believe it?", she's been talked to and made her realize that prostitution isn't really fit for her.

This song is pretty straight forward. The singer cares for a girl who wants nothing to do with him romantically. He sees her go through bad relationship after another and wishes she would understand that his love for her is more than shallow.

I think its about a girl who seems perfect to everyone. Everybody likes her but no one really knows her. And it's like she's tired of acting too nice and being the perfect girl. But she can't really turn to anybody because everybody's expecting her to lead this happy and perfect life.

I don't know, this is song gives me the idea of a girl who has just went through something traumatic, like losing a love or being cheated on. Then she goes back to her old life trying to re-adjust for it all to be the same as before it ever happened ("back here you never broke" - "back here you never lost"), but she cant take it. And after that she breaks down, the only thing that keeps her together that little bit is the music from the guitar. He tells her to suppress her feelings, to "keep it all inside", and tries to reassure somehow.

I think this song is about a girl who is a prostitute, and she's trying to turn her life around but she keeps getting pulled back in.
