Age Six Racer Lyrics

So long sweet summer,
I stumbled upon you and gratefully basked in your rays.

Hey thanks, thanks for that summer.

I think summer is just an analogy for how he feels when he's with the girl. I don't think this actually took place during the summer although it could have. Anyway she took him for granted and "passed on the best that I had". Anyway he'll always cherish the memory of that summer and he'll always have that to think about but no matter how great being with her was he still hates being apart from her "I hate the winter in Lexington". Great song btw

He has many songs with this theme. There is no girl. It's a metaphor for how summer is like a romance with a girl. "July" is the best example for this. The "girl's" name is July, because it is the month. He makes light of it by saying he has "a day or two ahead of me" in March.

This song, to me, is about a girl he met, perhaps over the summer, maybe on vacation. "So long sweet summer," refers to saying goodbye to the girl. But she's going away, so that's why he's saying so long. It's a very romantic goodbye.
