Gorillaz: Clint Eastwood Meaning
Clint Eastwood Lyrics
I got sunshine, in a bag
I'm useless,but not for long
The future is coming on
I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad
I got sunshine, in a bag
I'm useless, but not for long
The future is coming on
It's coming...
-
From what I see, the chorus is a shout out to clint eastwood. In the beginning of the song, you can hear the screams from "the good, the bad, and the ugly", arguably clint eastwood's greatest film. The "sunshine in a bag" is the gold he found at the end of that movie. That's my view in a literal sense.

Sunshine is acid, not bud, not cocaine

I always thought that the line "I got sunshine in a bag" was in reference to the Clint Eastwood movie "the good, the bad , and the ugly" because of the name of the song. "Sunshine in a bag" refers to the money the main character leaves with at the end of the movie.
Don't get angry at me just because I don't think that sunshine in a bag is in reference to a bag of any type of drug you think is called Sunshine.
It won't matter what you think a song means later so don't fight about it. You go on thinking your way and let everyone else think their way. -
...Actually, unless I missed it somewhere, no one seems to be taking into consideration that the actual "band members" here are imaginary figures, so much of the verbal imagery in the rap part of the song might just be referring to the required imagination (or, at least, the suspension of disbelief on the part of the spectators) to accept these characters as an actual band --to associate the music with the characters themselves, one must proceed, not with their eyes, which would remind you instantly that these guys are just puppet products of some unseen cartoon mastermind, but with your mind. Even just considering the song along these lines begins to open up a whole new level of possible meaning in the lyrics because the concept of imagination is a very broad and often poetic notion that many of the verses could easily be interpreted as referring to on some level.
...of course, the allegorical concept of a "hero's journey" into greatness of some kind seems to be in there too, but I don't doubt that the creators of this song revel knowingly in the fact that it seems to be about nothing more than tripping on drugs on the surface. -
The song is basically about being depressed. "I'm not happy, I'm feeling glad" is not being happy yet glad that he has "sunshine in a bag," an obvious drug reference. "I'm useless but not for long" is, as someone else previously said, about being stoned but it's gonna wear off soon. When the Del starts rapping, he's talking about possessing Russel and helping him and etc. Del is a metaphor for mental illness as you can see in the lyrics, in addition to being a character in the story of the band.

I think the song has spiritual meaning.

First off, song says, " I ain't happy " not "i'm happy" , big difference between being happy and feeling glad. Feeling glad is a reference to being on drugs, therefore, " I ain't happy. I'm feeling glad. " could be saying that I'm not happy about being on drugs, but I am on them (( being glad... )). And the whole sunshine in a bag reference, think small plastic bag..... None the less, the gorillaz (( album, not the band )) is my favorite album of theirs as it is different then everything produced in it's time, it is melodic and has meaning.

Have you ever heard the song oh suzzana? It's full of oxy-morons like I was so hot I frooze to death. Its the same hear I ain't happy I'm feeling glad, I got sunshine in a bag. The song does have some deeper meaning to it though
"i'm usless but not for long my future is comin' on" for example means that at this current point he feels that he has no purpose but believes that he soon will, and the verse isn't just political it is also about being and individual. -
Sunshine is not street terminology for pot or cocaine, it's LSD. And remember kids, stay in school, drugs aren't cool! Even if a popular cartoon band tells you differently. Actually, especially then.

"I'm happy, I'm feeling glad, I've got sunshine, In a bag, I'm useless, but not for long, The future is coming on" basically means that he has happiness because things are going to change and open new opportunities. Now, if you listen to the rap part, "Finally, someone let me out of my cage..." it refers to polotics, and demonstrates how people "don't see with your eyes, you perceive with your mind", which means prejudice and preformed ideas.
It's 8:00 in the morning, so enjoy what made sense. -
