John Mayer: Paper Doll Meaning
Song Released: 2013
Paper Doll Lyrics
Step out of that black chiffon
Here’s a dress of gold and blue
Sure was fun being good to you
This one we made just for Fall
And Winter runs a bit too small
This mint green is new for Spring
My love didn’t cost...

I really like this song because its very poetic and has some sort of a deep meaning. Well firstly this song is a fire back at taylors dear john which she obviously wrote about him. In my eyes john was going through their relationship. Basically saying that taylor was already broken when they got together. The word paper doll means someone who is used and thrown around. So i assume that john knew that Taylor was in a way a paper doll. He probably couldn't be with her because to him she lacked depth and was only interesting through society's eyes. In taylors song taylor had blamed him for everything and he was kind of just saying that taylor was too young and naive when they got together, that it was too much for a fragile girl like her hints (was it just to far to fall, for a little paper doll) . All in all its a good song.
