Because of You Lyrics

I will not make the same mistakes that you did
I will not let myself
Cause my heart so much misery
I will not break the way you did, when
You fell so hard
I've learned the hard way
To never let it get that far

Because of you
I never...

I believe is it about a bad relationship, and he raped her so she will never be the same, and he hurt her as well..... "because of you i am afriad"
Like the video she does with Reba and they are indead singing about a bad relationship, i think she is pashly telling herself she wont fall back into that, and some of it is just helping her cope with it

when i hear this song i think of a person dying. in my own life my first husband commited suicide and left me behind with 3 children. each time i hear it, i think of him, and how i play it on the safe side now. i do see how it could be about divorce, but to me this is what i think of when i hear it.

The songs about the pain she felt after her father left her and her mother after their divorce. It's about how her mother was selfish and only cared about her own pain and not about her daughters. When she says, "I watched you die. I heard you cry every night in your sleep. I was so young you should have known better than to lean on me. You never thought of anyone else you just saw your pain," this obviously refers to how selfish her mother was. The chorus of the song is definitely a reference to her father. It explains that when he left she had problems trusting people and feeling safe.

Her dad moving out on her and her mom after they got divorced when Kelly was 6. It's a true story. About her dad, not her husband.

I think it is about having an abusive husband
But it could also be about her parents divorce

This song is sad...i think it talks about her parents divorce. my parents died when I was young and kinda had the same effect on me because my mums friend made them angry at each other so in my view they both died of a broken heart. listening to this song makes me cry bares.

it reminds me of why I used to keep myself closed up and didn't make many friends. and like kelly I learned the hard way because when all this happened the people who were close to me were very comforting and even now when I tell people what happened they show me sympathy and although I hate it I'm glad because they remind me to not close myself up.

any way this song is about the burdens she faced and how she was able to see everything going on, every child can always notice when there is a problem and this song points it out and shows the parents self intrest when all this goes down.

now basically she is afraid because she doesn't want to have a broken heart and is afraid to think or love someone because she fears she will be hurt like that.
all her words in this song show a metaphoric view. I watched you die talks about when they got divorced and that her parents were upset about it and the soul which is figured as lifes essence died or was broken in two; from the theory of soul mates which is that God made two different people who once together would be complete and so it talks about breaking up.

now she is crying for the same reason could be that she herself experienced the same problems or was to afraid to take the risk. I feel the same way as kelly and relate to this song so much. There are so many risks that are worth taking and life is not complete without them but saying that I am a hypocrite although it is my view because I never risk my heart because it can never get broken and instead I simply say its ok. The only time I came close was the one day when I listened to this song.it made me think but then I chickened last moment. but still this song can provide inspiration to people to take the risks because there are some things that are worth it whether it is for relationships with family or friends or boyfriends or girlfriends. It teaches not to fake anything and be honest... I think finally listening to this song again has taught me to take risks and if I ever gain the courage to be honest in relationship matters then I would happily say its because of this song...
    thank you kelly clarkson <3

This song is one of my favorites becUse it relates to my life and almost mirrors it. My parents Are divorced too and it's my dad that makes me afraid of anything I say. The verse " because of you I am afraid" is what I feel when my dad doesn't do what he says. I'm aFraid he is going to hurt my heart again. Also the verse " I will not mAke the same mistakes thAt you did" means a lot because I will never try to hurt someones feelings by not showing up for a special event of mine or excluding me because I'm not his favorite child. Mostly the parents in this song are being selfish and not thinking about whAt we kids are feeling deepndown.

this song doesnt jst need to be about divorced families. my brother was going thro a drug addiction and it had a strong impact on my family. i listened to this song and it made me think about how i dont want to make the same mistakes as him and that he put a lot of the stress on me. i was afraid of a lot of stuff and played on the safe side just like the song said.

I know that because of you is a song about her parents, but I see it as her being really scared to do anything that she wants to do. She wants to do all of these things, but her fear of everything is holding her back constantly. She also sees that fear whenever she wants to get close to something, but she fears that it is going to go away soon.

Well yes she was going through a hard time just like a oot of people (me included) but it was to get that pain out of her especially if she didn't talk to any one about it and that the first verse is saying I think that she won't make the same mistake her parents did she won't let herself cause herself so much pain and that she learned the hard way never let it get that bad. The chorus is that she she learned to be careful so she won't get hurt also and that she finds it hard to trust people and that she is afraid. Then the third verse was that how string she has to be cause she tries to have a smile on her face and she can't cry and that her heart was already broken. Then it is the chorus again. The the fifth verse is that how they just saw their pain and didn't even think about their daughter. Then it is the end.

and this song had helped me personally in my own time that I am going through almost the same thing but the only thing is that I want my parents apart

I think this song has to do with her family and how she is afraid to end up anything like them. She can no longer trust anyone not even herself. She is reflecting her feelings and I am glad she wrote this song because it is something I can relate to because I am 17 years old and I grew up in a broken home, where nothing and no one is safe.

If you ask me, this is definitely about a child suffering from the effects of a broken home. I don't think the father necessarily died because there's no reference to this at all. I do, however, think that he hurt the mother - either by cheating on her or leaving her, etc.. - because the anger and resentment of the mother is portrayed throughout the whole song. It seems that because the mother has been so hurt by the father, she has been jaded to the extent that she doesn't believe in love, and in her own way, the mother tries to protect her daughter from the hurt and heartbreak by showing her the real extent of her pain, but in doing so, by talking to her and trying to help herself, she is emotionally draining her daughter. Her daughter was too young to learn this harsh lesson and was not strong enough to withstand the pain of dealing with a broken home, the disappointment she felt about her father leaving AND be the solid rock for her mother to lean on in her time of pain.
well that's one of my interpretations.. The other could be about an oppressive figure in her life. This person may have been hurt before and it destroyed her so much that she turned her heart to stone so that she would never be vulnerable enough for anyone to ever hurt her again. She puts on a brave face, but she doen't deal with her pain, so despite her heart of steel, insode she's crumbling and falling to pieces. This oppressive person then tries to teach the supposed lesson that she has learnt to the speaker of the song. and although the speaker has learnt from the other's experiences, she does not want to end up cut off from emotion and so bitter and jaded like the other person. but because this other person has such a strong presence and influence in her life, she is trapped. She has no choice but to put on a brave face, because where we see emotion as dealing with pain, this other person is jaded so much that she sees it as weakness.
what do you think? I love this song.. Its so deep and meaningful, and you really feel her pain, resentment, heartbreak and disappointment.

It's about Kelly always fighting with her husband because her dad was an abusive JERK who didn't care about his family. He made her feel afraid and empty inside and her mom would try 2 lean on her."I was so young you should have known better than to lean on me".

So because of her dad she tries to push away her husband in fear of getting hurt by him too. But at the end of the song she realizes she doesn't want to make his mistakes so she makes up with her husband.

It isn't about any of those things. Her dad raped her.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
