Lifehouse: Everything Meaning
Everything Lyrics
speak to me
i want to feel you
i need to hear you
you are the light
that is leading me
to the place where
i find peace again
you are the strength
that keeps me walking
you are the hope
that keeps me trusting
you are the...

I interpret as many others do, and that is that Lifehouse is speaking about God. However, it is true that they may be talking about a girl. It sounds like a love song about someone who helps the singer through all their hard times, and I think that MANY love songs can be applied to singing to God because we all should be madly in love with Him!
And because Lifehouse is a christian band, it is most likely that they are singing about God and His amazing love for each and everyone of us.
God bless! -
That's funny-the line "my purpose" was the key line for me believing the song was about god. I fail to see how your "purpose" in life, could be another person (spouse). But that's just me :)

I agree with the whole God interpretation. God is everything to us. go to youtube.com and search dancing with jesus. Better way of putting it.

I think the song is about a girl. I wasn't aware that Lifehouse was a Christian band.. but how could God be "my purpose"? I think the song is so ambivalent that it could be either about a girl or God, but that line is the key for me.

When I heard this, it seemed like he had a deep love with the being that this song is about. So I thought it was about God.
I suppose it could be interpreted as being a song about a relationship.
Either way, this song is so beautiful. -
I know that lifehouse is a christian band but all there songs aren't always about god. I think this one could be taken both ways about a girl and about god. Just depends on who is listening to it.

This song is referring to the fact that God is everything. Lifehouse is a Christian band! God is our strength, hope, the light and life to the soul. He gives purpose to life and is everything! He finds peace in the light with God. He holds him in His hands and will never let him fall. He calms the storms and gives us rest! He's everything we need and want, EVERYTHING! It's pretty self-explanatory.
This song reflects the struggle of staying on track with Christ, and feeling moved by Him all the time. He's wondering why God is so powerful, yet sometimes he isn't moved by Him and he wants to get into a deeper relationship with Him, thus, he says 'I want to feel You, I need to hear You'. How can it get any better than having a relationship with the One who created us?!
