Melanie Martinez: Bittersweet Tragedy Meaning
Bittersweet Tragedy Lyrics
Candy hearts and chocolate dreams
I, met, my prince upon a popcorn bowl
He held my heart and let it go
Ice cream, upon a summer's day
Beginning sweetness never stays
Melting through the...

#1 top rated interpretation:This seems like the song is about a girl (maybe Melanie's character 'Crybaby') and a handsome boy/guy (Lyric: Boy straight out of the movie screen) and how me may have teased the girl/messed with her heart by saying he liked her, then treating her like she isn't there. Welp. This is all I got :D (#thisallkindajusthappenedtome ;-;)

#2 top rated interpretation:Melanie’s character “Crybaby” met a guy and got into a relationship. At first, everything was so perfect, but things rarely stay that way. Their relationship became toxic, whether that be because it turned abusive, there was cheating, or they just weren’t good for each other. Either way their relationship devolved but Crybaby was still holding on, remembering the “beginning sweetness.” This song is her process of letting go and acknowledging that things are done, and that’s for the best. I can relate a lot, this song reminds me of my first love. :,)

#3 top rated interpretation:This song is about a guy she liked. She thought he was so sweet and amazing, but he was actually the opposite. He manipulated her and lied to her.

I think its about a fake love Cry Baby had a boy friend that only wanted to mess with her heart reminds me about how one day I told my best friend I loved her she said she did to spoiler alert she lied she is really mean she lies alot
-
i think this song is about how crybaby was in a relationship that was sour and bad but she only focused on the sweet parts about it. she then realized how bad it was and "spat it out and brushed her teeth" meaning, she let go of him and started working on herself.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
my personal interpretation is that the song is about a boy she loved, who maybe never noticed her or treated her really bad. she was sick of this “bittersweet tragedy“ so she wanted to get over him and she realized she held on too long onto this boy.
-
Crybaby was in love with a boy, but realized how he wouldn't be good for her. He's useless to her now, and what she expected to be a passionate relationship was actually a waste of time. She 'spat him out' (metaphorically speaking dropped her romantic feelings for him).
-
I think that Crybaby wrote this song about how her relationship with a man is going awful because he is always mean to her and abuses her. The part melting through the cracks in my hand, guess I held on for too long, means that she held on to their abusive relationship to long. And to her its a tragedy because she thought he was the one

Crybaby likes this boy but he only plays with crybaby heart .
-
I think it means how the relationship started well but there was something bad about it
-
This song is about Crybaby and a boy she dated. They broke up and Crybaby is saying how bittersweet the relationship was and how the break up was. (I listened to this a lot during my break up and I can compare a lot :()
