Melanie Martinez: Bombs on Monday Meaning
Bombs on Monday Lyrics
I never thought that something something so tragic could ever happen...
-
I think this song is based on the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The meaning of this is because the United States weren't apart of WW2 until Japan bombed the US, which was unexpected. This led to the "perfect family" being their normal selves till the bombs were dropped. Although, the bombing didn't happen on Monday, instead it happened on Sunday,7:55 a.m.

I think it's about World war II or the Cold War, or even Pearl Harbour. When I first heard this, I thought of a family of either poor, or rich people, awaiting the news that the enemies to their country had gone, and it was early on a Monday morning, and they were killed. Or one of the family members died. But, that's just a guess

(My theory) I think that Melanie wrote about someone dying of cancer. the “garden with no flowers” represents someone’s hair loss due to cancer, Time will still be hours, meaning that they would need to cherish the time they have together “ love will still be trying” meaning that they would love the person no matter what happens.

I think this is about the Holocaust. "I never thought that something something so tragic could ever happen"-the Holocaust. "Eyes like hazel, twinkle in the Starlight. Even when they're crying" - Jews crying. "Garden with no flowers" - Concentration Camps. This is a very sad song I cry when it comes on. :(

Personally, I think this is about the invasion of Poland in WWII. Which happened on a Monday. And the first things the Germans did was drop bombs. "Waiting for the news together" means how Neville Chanberlin was waiting for the news with his wife. Because he ordered the Germans to pull out of Poland, but they were waiting for the news of it. "Pinky promise I'll still love your garden even with no flowers" signifies how after WWII many gardens didn't have flowers due to people not being able to plant them. "Any moment an explosion" points to how no one was expecting the invasion. Just a theory but......

I feel as though it's about someone who is sick. Not about wars. Melanie Martinez has a habit of hiding meanings with a lot of metaphors. If someone has cancer for example it's news that could be unexpected and the whole family will be waiting on good news of the disease going away. Bombs on Monday morning can signify waiting on Monday morning for an answer from the doctors. And when she says "doctors orders don't be broken hearted" it's because being sad while you are battling a disease lowers your bodies desire to create immunity. Time will still be ours signifies there is still time to be together and that whatever happens they'll still love one another.

Idk, but this is about war. Melanie likes to insert real life themes into her songs, so she wrote this probably about all the families of the military soldiers that go to war, and the bomb fallin on monday morning is about how this happens constantly. "Waiting for the news together, an explosion at any moment" is about how those families wait for news of their loved ones at any time, and the explosion would be the actual news.
This was supposed to be on the Cry Baby album, so it makes perfect sense, Crybaby's dad would go to war and this would screw up her family even more- and it would probably come after Dollhouse. -
(this is just a theory) i think that Melanie knows someone lost someone in her family and is deeply depressed.i think that the persons husband went to war and on the first day (monday) the enemy droped bombs on everybody ...the wife is waiting for news of her husband and is crying oh so much "eyes like hazel twinkle in the starlight, even when they're crying"
