Melanie Martinez: Death Meaning
Song Released: 2023
Death Lyrics
The flowers are fresh and their faces wet
My body has died but I'm still alive
Look over your shoulder, I'm back from the dead
Lightin' my candles to draw me in
Seeing all the same things, I'm gone...

My interpretation of DEATH by Melanie Martinez is that Cry Baby is implying that even though she is physically deceased, and her body might be dead and gone, her soul is still living. The album PORTALS shows a transition between when she dies and goes to her next life. Cry Baby's physical human body is dead, but now she has to be on this journey before she can go to her next life. DEATH is the first song in PORTALS, with WOMB being the last which shows that she died and will soon be reborn in her next life.

First interpretation of Melanie's new song, Death! I feel like Death is about Mel entering a new era. She might have predicted that a majority of her fans would be against her new "theme". All of the thumbnails to the Crybaby music videos have been changed to "RIP Crybaby" + in one of the scenes in the official music video, her new persona "kills" Crybaby, kind of seems like she's saying "even though Crybaby is dead, they will always be remembered." If you read the lyrics to the song it definitely seems like she's directing it to her antis or those who can't accept her change. The chorus is probably the icon addressing her comeback.
