Of Monsters and Men: Dirty Paws Meaning
Song Released: 2012
Dirty Paws Lyrics
My head is an animal.
And once there was an animal,
It had a son that mowed the lawn.
The son was an ok guy,
They had a pet dragonfly.
The dragonfly it ran away
But it came back with a story to...
-
I don't think there is any deeper meaning related to historic wars, I think that it is just meant to tell a story of a war in the forest or possibly the war on pollution and deforestation.
-
To me it sounds like the dragonfly witnessing a war between the birds and the bees, then goes back to the animal and his son. And I picture "Dirty Paws" as a wolf that the birds came to, to ask for help.

The song is a folksong about how it came to be that Iceland use to have no bees.
The folk song is a story of how the bees were destroyed by a war between them and the birds.
Bees were introduced to Iceland. -
This is about an Icelandic Fantasy story, I'm not sure on which one bit this band is from Iceland and it only makes sense.
-
That WW2 interpretation was laughable. "It is about..."
The four-legged creature is on the birds' side. -
NO! Does anyone actually listen to the lyrics!?! The "Four dirty paws" are on the birds side!
-
The song is about world war 2. The bees are the Germans who are superior in naval and air warfare. "coming up from below" submarine attacks. "in snow" possibly a reference to war in Russia. "The forest once green" the destruction and devastation of Europe. "The queen" possibly a reference to hitler. The four dirty paws, a reference to the nazi flag and all the disgusting effects it brought on the world.
-
literally:
there's an animal family that have a pet dragonfly that went into the forest of talking trees that told him of an ancient war between the birds and the bees.
The Bees declared war because they wanted to rule the sky "It wasn't big enough for them all" and the birds got help from "dirty paws" or four legged animals.
The bees were winning and the other side went underground in their "holes" because of the bees=killing machine. this made it winter or something and then the "she" who was referred to at the beginning got all the animals together and took out the Queen Bee and her men.
Figuratively:
could be a play off of the bees being bullies who the birds and animals take down.
the animals could rep the humans since the person's head is an animal.
I'm not really sure other than that.
