One Direction: 18 Meaning
18 Lyrics
I got a heart, I got a soul
Believe me, I will use them both
We made a start, being a false one I know
Baby, I don't want to feel alone

So kiss me, when I lay down
My hands pressed to your cheeks

Love gives the answer: We go on for each other. Even in the memory of one who is far away, or one who has long passed on, love can sustain a person through impossible struggles that they would otherwise be too discouraged to face. You're here because you love someone or somebody loves you, and these songs know how you feel.

This song is about drarry.

I came here to learn what the song actually means instead of who it’s about lolol(coughs at all the Larry comments) so I’m not gonna talk about ships. But to put out what I think it’s about, it’s about two people who found love at 18 years old, may have realised it or would realise it years down the road as the friendship/relationship grows, and when they’ve realised they had fallen in love, they can’t think of life without each other, and the playground in the lyrics symbolises a particular place these two people often hang out during their younger days. So when it comes to the lyrics, “I wanna love like you made me feel when we were 18”, it means that they want the love to remain the same as it felt back then, when it was young, pure and innocent.

I like the music styles to the library of music videos. We’re making one direction, we have left to the studio, we didn’t have my working papers. We’re very forming for the great songwriters, we’re getting to be alive, we’re making this album.

I love how some people have said that this song is about Elounor (not on this website), and I’m just sitting there like, bish Louis and Eleanor didn’t even know each other. Larry Stylinson all the way :)

It's about larry.

This song can be interpreted in many ways. The most common one is obviously Larry Stylinson. Everyone Directioner knows the story. Even if they aren't a shipper. Two boys meet at X-Factor in the bathrooms and they fall in love with each other. And being a shipper myself, I feel like this song is about Larry.
I'm going to break down each lyric, which is what I always do when I interpret. "I got a heart and I got a soul. Believe me, I will use them both." It's Louis (or Harry) saying that they will love the other with all their heart, that they got a good soul to use on the other one.
However, the next lyric changes the point of view differently. "We made a start.
Be it a false one, I know.
Baby, I don't want to feel alone." They're either a) only dating so they aren't alone. or b) they feel like this is a mistake and it might be false love, but they're willing to take the chance. "So kiss me where I lay down.
My hands pressed to your cheeks.
A long way from the playground." There's not much you can say about this other then the fact it's literally talking about making love. "I have loved you since we were 18." Sometimes, Harry changes the lyrics to 16 because he was 16 and Louis was 18 when they met.
"Long before we both thought the same thing,
To be loved and to be in love." This goes back to when they first met. They never knew they were going to fall for each other. They didn't know whether they wanted to be loved or just to be in love.
"All I could do is say that these arms were made for holding you." When you're sad, your loved one wants to comfort you and with the rumors starting by now and being closeted, there's a lot of that.
"I wanna love like you made me feel when we were 18." This is because they shut the rumors down. They had to stop acting like they were dating. But before One Direction was big, when Louis was 18, they could share their affection. I think this lyric shows that he wants Louis (or Harry depending on the way YOU look at it) to just feel loved, to be how they were when they were eighteen without having to hide the truth.
"We took a chonce. God knows we tried. Yet all along, I knew we'd be fine. Hmmmm! The lyrics seem interesting. We took a chonce (chance) saying that they took a shot at love and even God knew it. Yet, along all the drama and rumors, the beards, they somehow knew they'd both be fine along the way.
"So pour me a drink, oh, love" I think of this part as Louis pouring Harry a drink of champagne at their wedding.
Let's split the night wide open and we'll see everything
We can livin' love in slow motion, motion, motion." And I see the rest of this part being their honeymoon.
If you break the song down deeper, it's basically talking about how they first met and how they didn't know what they wanted in life. But they fell in love. This song talks about how everything that happened, they will always be with each other going strong. It talks about their first time making love, their honeymoon. It's like their whole seven years together in one song. Ed Sheeran wrote this song too. Ed Sheeran is great friends with One Direction. No one would know if Larry was real more than Ed Sheeran. You don't have to believe me. But these lyrics make total sense. -
It's obviously about Larry Stylinson cz Louis met Harry when Lou was 18. But when Harry sings the song, he screams 16 instead of 18 bcz Harry met Louis when Harry was 16. Also when Louis sings the song on stage he mentions "I hav loved HIM since we were 18" and then looks at Harry. You should watch the video. Larry Stylinson 4ever!

well obviously this song is about Larry. Because Louis met harry when he was 18 on the X factor, where they supposedly, secretly dated. And harry still loved Louis when he was 18. Just basically everything in that that song says Larry. Larry does exist, well at least it did and forever will, so there is no denying it. Larry is still real, and there are many one direction songs that prove it. Have you seen the way they look at each other, they obviously used to love each other, and they still do, but they have their beards. hopefully one day they will come out.
Larry is real, and you know it, so don't deny it -
i'm saying this as the devil's advocate: maybe the song isn't about larry. as much as i would love it to be, the fact that the band is over (we don't want to accept it, but it was never really a hiatus) and louis and harry have not only not come out as bisexual/gay individually OR for each other is a serious red flag. for the longest time, the reason that they haven't come out has been the threat of modest, the threat of their popularity decreasing, the threat of the wellbeing of the rest of the band. at this point, none of those excuses are relevant. the only things holding them back could be a) they aren't actually gay/bi, b) they don't feel the need to share it with the world, c) they don't feel comfortable sharing it with the world yet, or d) they still have a contract holding them back. speculate all you want, i won't stop you or criticize you, but i will bring up the possibility that since this song was written by ed sheeran, it's actually about an experience that ed sheeran had. or, there's always the possibility that it's based on fiction. i'm not trying to rile anyone up, i just figure to find the truth you must consider every option. happy investigating! x

I think it's about Larry. Everyone does, but it's just so obvious. Remember when Harry shouted "sixteen!" when Louis sang "I have loved you since we were 18"? You can't deny it!

this song is open to everyone's interpretation therefore you can think what you like . some may think that its about Larry Stylinson which i personally do agree on . even ed sheeran admitted that it was about a bromance in 1d . to me it is definitely about Larry but they covered some of the lyrics up just to confuse us. they cant hide anything from directioners because we are better at investigations than the FBI. i have said what i wanted to now its up to you to decide what to believe.

I honestly think that this song is about Larry, sure they weren't 18 at the same time but you can tell by the way that they turn to each other and sing to one another on stage, that its about them.
But if you just want to base it on age then it could also be Ziam
