Hot Air Balloon Lyrics
and with a mean sewing machine and miles of thread we sewed the day above L.A in navy and red
We wound a race track through your moms kitchen chairs and...

#1 top rated interpretation:"We wrote a prelude to our own fairytale" They spend time together away from the real world, avoiding all the discouragements of everybody that complains about them being together. "We sewed the day above L.A." This means the spent a lot of time together around somewhere. "So bored to death, you held your breath and I tried not to yawn" He really means that even if his girl cracks a boring joke he will still laugh because of the love and respect he has for his girl.
-
I think it's about enjoying the company of a dear friends,a girl.

To me, this song is definitely about enjoying your childhood while you have it. When he says "I'll be out of my mind, and you'll be out of ideas pretty soon", I think that he means that they will both be all grown up and unable to play or imagine like children anymore. So, instead of worrying about that future, he wants to imagine again, like they are kids, and go on adventures in their imaginary (cold) hot air balloon.

It's a song in which a boy describes his adventure with a girl.....
-
"I'll be out of my mind
and you'll be out of ideas pretty soon.
So let's spend the afternoon
in a cold hot air balloon."
This song might literally be talking about their childhood. Like how they pretend and stuff. -
I see the song as recounting a time in which he spent the day trying to entertain a child and ended up in a 'hot air balloon', something that resembles a basket that the two of them could sit in and pretend they where flying

I think "we wrote a prelude to our own fairytale" refers to when the parachute was bought, possibly by their parents or previous owners of the house. Or maybe even in a past lifee because it says we wrote a prelude to our own fairytale.
They are obviously playing a game in the line "we wound a racetrack through your moms kitchen chairs". They decide to venture into the dark basement. They probably imagined fighting the shadows down the stairs. Lighting a match refers to a light source and they find and old hot air balloon, or something that resembles one.
They continue on their adventures and imagine things only the mind of a child could think up. -
"We wrote a prelude to our own fairytale" means that anyone could enter the wide world of imagination and there he can do whatever he wants and be the main character of his own story. A "Hot Air Balloon" can fly and take you anywhere, to wherever you want. It shows that dreaming has no limitations. In a world of dreams anything can be achieved...

I think this is about him and a childhood friend playing around in the basement and imagining they were in a hot air balloon.
To all wondering about "the day above LA" I think that means when they sewed up the balloon it helped them imagine being up in the sky above LA. -
'The Day Above LA' is the name of their hot air balloon...every hot air balloon has a name :)
-
I think this song isabout two kids who are friends playing around in the basement and finding a hot air balloon (or maybe something that looked like one) and they pretended they were flying in it. They used their imaginations so they wouldn't be bored anymore.
