Owl City: Tidal Wave Meaning
Tidal Wave Lyrics
And cross your mind 'cause I believe
You'd unfold your paper heart
And wear it on your sleeve
All my life I wish I broke mirrors
Instead of promises
'Cause all I see is a shattered conscience
Staring right...
-
I asked my friend and she said it was a guy breaking up with a girl because he was depressed, but he realises that he can be brave because he's still alive. He can turn himself around. He can try, and there's still hope left.
-
In this song Adam's talking about overcoming depression and how you can find hope from above(God) and give your burdens to Him.
-
I think it's talk about Adam Young's insecurity! :p
-
Personally, I think this song is about all the things that cause sadness. At the beginning he seems to be talking about a girl that he hurt, hence "I wish I could break mirrors instead of promises" saying maybe that he would rather be ugly than hurtful.
"I wish I could cross my arms, and cross your mind" maybe means that if he could just stop caring, maybe she would notice him.
It says how everything can be so overwhelming and "come down like a tidal wave." I think it is also referring to how some people end their lives because of depression. "depression please cut to the chase and cut a long story short"
It is saying how God can help you through it all and give you hope so you don't have to turn to drastic measures. -
I thought I was about believing in yourself, and when doing so remember Life won't end unless it is time and it is not time yet.
-
This song is about Adam's car crash and about how he was involved in an accident("Cause it came down like a tidal wave")He finds that hope is elusive and doesn't feel brave or secure, only depressed ("Depression, please cut to the chase And cut a long story short"). However, he is able to find hope in God ("Cause I found a new hope from above") and his faith lets him be brave.
