Owl City: Vanilla Twilight Meaning
Song Released: 2010
Vanilla Twilight Lyrics
And I lie awake I miss you,
Pour me a heavy dose of atmosphere.
Cause I'll doze off safe and soundly,
But I'll miss your arms around me
I'd send a postcard to you dear,
Cause I wish you were here.
I'll...

#1 top rated interpretation:To the person who wrote: "This is a christian song about how it can feel to be away from jesus as he keeps on saying 'Oh darling I wish you were here' ", um, wouldn't it be a little strange for a man to call jesus darling???

#2 top rated interpretation:This song has a sad meaning. He is basically saying he misses her and he would write to her, if he could, cause he wishes to be with her again. He is also saying how things are not the same without her, and never will be. He is mentioning some of the things they might have done together "I'll miss your arms around me", "I'll watch the night turn light blue..." "takes two to whisper quietly". He is also saying how he hasn't been able to sleep lately, probly thinking of her. When he thinks of her, he proby feels her presense, or is with her spiritually, cause he doesnt feel so alone when he thinks of her. He might also be talking about how he'd forget about his life "and I'll forget the world that I knew" just to keep her in his memory "but I swear I won't forget you" and at the end, if he could go into the past he'd say "oh darling I wish you were here" with him, in the present time. <\3

#3 top rated interpretation:This song is about how Adam lost his high school sweet heart in a car crash."And I lie awake and miss...Cause I'll dose off safe and soundly but I'll miss your arms around me."
He's talking about how much he misses her and wishes she was here with him. -
I think he misses his soulmate and feeling how painful to love someone
Guys love is very painful trust me if your heart doesn't cries for nothing for someone you love...that's not true love -
I think that we may all be right it could be she moved away and he missed her but she died without saying goodbye and this song is him grieving (and to the person who put “wouldn’t it be strange to call Jesus darling” I’m still laughing)

I know what people think it’s actually about but when I heard it the first few times it just made me feel like I had someone whom I had loved and that they died. It was a depressing song but it made me feel better than I usually felt. It’s an awesome song and the very first time a heard it I didn’t like it. I only liked owl city’s upbeat happy songs. But then after about a year I heard it again and felt like it was the best song ever because of the meaning that it had to it. It made me wish that I had something

i think Adam told us about losing someone you love from his Vanilla Twilight. Someone who means so much to you. She has gone. So hasn't gone to a place nor you can call them. It's not about distance. It's about..., dimension. She's long gone and you would never her again till you die

This so friggin cute, and even though adam young IS a christian, i highly beleive this is not a worship song ...

The song is about loosing someone close. "I'll miss your arms around me" He says how life is lonely without them. Many people have figured that bit out. But the end 'Stanza,' when he says "And heavy wings grow lighter" I belive he died to join them. "I'll taste the sky and feel alive again" Is another peice of evidence for this. He died thus becoming an angel, making his wings light. Also, feeling alive again. He felt dead without his love, but now he is in 'heaven' perhaps, he feels much closer and alive again, even though he is dead.

I thought it was a long-distance relationship song, and you guys are breaking my heart with the car-crash thing.
-
omg whoever made the comment about it being weird to call jesus darling, you made me laugh :P lol!
-
this song is about how he lost his high school sweetheart that he loved in a car crash " i look at my hands and feel sad because the spaces between my fingers are right where yours fit perfectly" " the stars lean down to kiss you and i lie awake and miss you" "ill miss your arms around me cause i wish you were here" all these tell and explain how he felt after he lost her and he hid away from others.
-
He wrote this when he couldn't sleep one night, so he took his parents rowboat out onto the lake and fell alseep in it. He woke up and saw the sunrise. That's what inspired the song. And I don't think his girlfriend died, she just went to college. :)

I always thought it ment that adams girl moved away or broke up with him. So now he cant stop thinking about her. In the song, it said i'd send a postcard dear, meaning she is far away. Just saying my opion.
-
maybe its about a girl you crush and she already belong to someone else who love her better than you i think, but you just still love her even you cant reach her, just like happen to me...
-
I think it's about a person who's longing for someone, and even though they've decided to start over and forget about the world they once knew they know that they will never forget the person.
-
Vanilla twilight is simply about how Adam has lost someone close to him and all the little things about them are the biggest things he misses eg.How he misses staring at the stars at them and how their fingers always seemed to fit perfectly together
-
This song can best be described as a song someone would write to a friend or family member that the writer was close to while the friend/family member was still alive. Memories are strong when someone you love dies.
