Paramore: Brick by Boring Brick Meaning
Song Released: 2009
Brick by Boring Brick Lyrics
Somewhere too far for us to find
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of a world that she's left behind
It's all about the exposure, the lens, I told her
The angels are all wrong now
She's ripping wings off of...
-
Well make sure to build your heart brick by boring brick
or the wolf's gonna blow it down
This is the only line of the song that matters to me. Basically, she's saying that it's better to withhold
your emotions from the world, or someone's going to rip you apart. Yes; you people made lyrical mistakes. Deal with it. -
she isn't cutting herself LOL
she say she want to bury the castle in represent of the fantasy... of living in a fantasy world without to enyoy the real and simple things of it xD -
i personally thought that the song is about a girl who tries to escape the reality of the world she lives in by venturing deep into the imaginative land she made up. About halfway through the land turns on her and seems like the scary reality she tried to run from in the first place. Which i believe shows that no matter how badly you imagine a different life you can not escape your own mind.

To be honest, i think shes singing about
rape :\
She lives in a fairy tale
Somewhere too far for us to find
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of the world that she's left behind
(So after being raped, shes escaped to her own world)
It's all about the exposure the lens I told her
The angels were all wrong now
She's ripping wings off of butterflies
(So her innocence of butterflies and such was destroyed)
keep your feet on the ground
when your head's in the clouds
(Kinda llike staying realistic)
CHORUS:
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle; bury the castle
Ba da ba ba da ba ba pow
(I think here, its about burying the innocence that was stolen. The castle being the innocence)
So one day he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick
And the clock struck 12
(Here would be the rape..)
Well make sure to build your house brick by boring brick
or the wolves gonna blow it down
(Stay strong or youll be a victim again)
keep your feet on the ground
when your head's in the clouds
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Well you built up a world of magic
Because your real life is tragic
Yeah you built up a world of magic
(Speaks for itself)
If it's not real
You can't hold it in your hand
You can't feel it with your heart
And I won't believe it
But if it's true
You can see it with your eyes
Oh even in the dark
And that's where I want to be, yeah
(This could be her reminiscing on her innocence)
Go get your shovel
We'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Ba da ba da ba... -
i think its all about mind control trust me on this check out this link http://nesara.insights2.org/Monarch.html

She made up a magical land becouse "her real life was tragic". "her prince came to save her...it was a trick. "rest you can figure out".. Which is the reason she couldn't handle her real life, She was raped by someone she thought she could trust.
-
You have it totally wrong!
She was going through alot of things then "a prince....rest you can figure out....it was a trick" she was raped.
Then her mind just flipped, (as what happens when something traumatic happens) She made a fantasy land. "your life was tragic made a world of magic" -
Well, here goes.
She lives in a fairy tale
Somewhere too far for us to find
(This is a fantasy world inside her imagination)
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of a world that she's left behind
(She often pretends as if the Real World does not exist)
It's all about the exposure, the lens, I told her
(You warned her about not facing reality, but she ignored you)
The angels are all wrong now
She's ripping wings off of butterflies
(She sees reality, and gets depressed)
Keep your feet on the ground
When your head's in the clouds
("Head in the clouds" is their way of saying don't focus on what's real.)
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
(Get rid of this fantasy world and face reality)
Go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Ba-da ba ba-da ba ba da
(She wants McDonald's. Go figure.)
So one day, he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
(This fake prince is a figment of the girl's imagination)
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
(Just another Cinderella story to her)
But it was a trick
And the clock struck twelve, well make sure
(She snapped back into reality)
To build your house brick by boring brick
Or the wolf's gonna blow it down
(Imagine harder, or you'll just snap back into reality)
Keep your feet on the ground...
When your head's in the clouds...
(Again with what I said earlier.)
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
(Face reality.)
Go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
We'll bury the castle, bury the castle
Well you built up a world of magic
Because your real life is tragic
Yeah you built up a world of magic...
(You probably understand this part. You pretended everything was perfect when your imagination got ahead of you and made life worse.)
If it's not real
You can't hold it in your hand
You can't feel it with your heart
And I won't believe it
(If it's fake, Hayley won't believe it)
But if it's true
You can see it with your eyes
Oh, even in the dark
And that's where I want to be, yeah!
(If there is proof of some sort that her fantasy world is real, Hayley suggests it's better than the Real World sometimes)
Go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
(DO I HAVE TO REPEAT?)
Go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Ba-da ba ba-da ba ba da
Ba-da ba ba ba-da ba ba
Ba-da ba ba-da ba ba da
Ba-da ba ba ba ba-ba ba ba
(Give her some McDonald's, please!)
Somebody said this song was a brainwashing song. I don't believe that crap. -
I think that the song is about being naive. When the song sayes "Then finely the prince came to safe her and the rest she can't figure out but it was a trick..." it means "She is stupind to think that the first boy who says i love you is the one, but is is't that way..." I don't think its about trying to escape the world but she just don't know better, curse she haven't tryed to be hurt before and won't hear when people teel her that the world isn't only a good place.
-
She lives in a fairytale.
Somewhere too far for us to find.
(For me this means she spends her time dreaming up a perfect world)
Forgotten the taste and smell,
of a world that she's left behind.
(To me this says she got so wrapped up in her made up world she forgot what the real one is like)
It's all about the exposure,
The lens I told her.
(to me this means its all about how you see things. & how much you're exposed to the world)
The angles are all wrong now,
She's ripping wings off of butterflies.
(To me this is about that her mind became twisted and was tearing apart something that represents what she can't have- Happiness)
Keep your feet on the ground,
When your head's in the clouds.
(To me this means it's ok to imagine things, but you need to keep in touch with reality or you'll lose yourself)
So go get your shovel,
& we'll dig a deep hole,
to bury the castle
(to me the castle stands for all of your fantasies. All of your failed dreams or expectations that weren't met. & to bury them is not to forget them, but to simply hide them so you wont be so obsessed)
So one day he found her crying,
coiled up on the dirty ground.
Her prince finally came to save her.
And the rest you can figure out.
(To me this part is about how another Fake prince charming found her & she told him of the other FAKE prince. & how he tricked her into loving him, but was only using her.)
But it was a trick,
& the clock struck twelve.
(To me this means the second FAKE prince charming was the same as the first. That fairytale ended without a happy ending.)
Well make sure,
To build your house brick,
But by boring brick
Or the world's gonna blow it down.
(To me this means 'build your HOPE brick but by boring brick or the WORLD'S gonna blow it down)
Well you built up a world of magic,
because your real world was tragic
(this line speaks for itself)
If it's not real,
You can't hold it in your hands,
You can't feel it with your heart,
& I won't believe you
(It's true. I think this line is soo full of emotion. It's hidden in there, but to me this means that the world the girl made up isn't real. She can't feel it. It's not there.)
But if it's true,
(basically, this says, this is your last chance to convince me.)
You can see it with your eyes,
Oh, even in the dark.
And that's where I want to be.
(This, to me, means soo much. Because this means that those things I've dreamed of, those things we've dreamed of, can be accomplished if you can see it everywhere. If you can see it even in the dark.) -
To me this song is about a girl who felt like she lived in a fantasy and thought living "happily ever after" would always happen.
"So one day he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out"
The girl kept making the same mistakes at love and a boy was always there to pick her and then break her heart again.
"If it's not real
You can't hold it in your hand
You can't feel it with your heart
And I won't believe it
But if it's true
You can see it with your eyes
Oh even in the dark
And that's where I want to be"
Hayley could be a friend of this girl and thinking how foolish the girl was and knows that she (Hayley) would never make theses mistakes. It could also be that the whole song is about Hayley at three points in her life.
One, a young Hayley dreaming of "Prince Charming", a Hayley going through a hard time with a broken heart, and a Hayley looking at all her mistakes and burying her childhood dreams.
The title "Brick by Boring Brick" could mean that your dreamworld could be wonderful but the real boring world is going to make you stronger even if it hurts.
-
Long story short, I think this song is about being told the truth when all along, you were living a lie.
-
"She lives in a fairy tale/much too far off for us to find" (This line is saying that as a kid, you lived thinking everything was a fairytale. But,now it's too late to find that fairytale again.)
"Forgotten the taste and smell of a world that she left behind."(As a kid, you saw the world... but not as it was)
"It's all about the exposure, the lens, I told her/The angels are all wrong now
/She's ripping wings off of butterflies" (Childhood you realizes that her fantasy world isn't real, and the drama of tweenhood begins)
"Keep your feet on the ground
When your head's in the clouds" (Stop daydreaming)
"Well go get your shovel / And we'll dig a deep hole/To bury the castle, bury the castle" (Now you're burring your childhood.)
"So one day, he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick
And the clock struck twelve" (This is basically saying that teenage you found your "prince charming" but he wasn't so perfect...)
"well make sure
To build your house brick by boring brick
Or the wolf's gonna blow it down" (I don't really know about this line...)
Repeat chorus and pre-chorus...
"Well you built up a world of magic
Because your real life is tragic
Yeah you built up a world of magic..." (This is self explanatory)
"If it's not real
You can't hold it in your hand
You can't feel it with your heart" All this stuff that kids make up, like that they'll find prince charming and you have a perfect life... It's not real)
And I won't believe it
But if it's true
You can see it with your eyes
Oh, even in the dark
And that's where I want to be, yeah! (And it's not true.)
Go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Ba-da ba ba-da ba ba da
Ba-da ba ba ba-da ba ba
Ba-da ba ba-da ba ba da
Ba-da ba ba ba ba-ba ba ba -
To be honest. i think its about being raped. or about when your a child getting abused by an adult.
From hayley's point of view sings about how when she was a child she got abused by her father or someone in her family. but because she was a child she didn't understand it so she couldn't get over it, she built up this world all around her to get rid of the memories of what happened to her.she ends up living in this 'Fairy tale' becuase she can't stand the real world anymore - this is the first verse.
The bit about 'keep your feet on the ground when your heads in the clouds' thats about when she is in her own world she can't get away from it.
the chorus is that who ever raped her or abused her took her childhood away and thats why there burying castles and stuff.
she's built up a world of magic becuase she can't bare whats happened.
the bit about how if you can't see it or feel it then it isn;t real, she's trying to protect herself from what's happened and trying to stop it happening again by re-writing what's real and not in her head.
'So one day he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick
And the clock struck 12' Ok so her dad (who i'm guessing is raping her) he break's through her fantasies and she thinks he's gonna save her (maybe she doesn't realise its her dad raping or abusing her,
then she realises it was a trick and he starts doing it again. clock strikes 12- yeah getting abused during the night maybe?
