Paramore: Brick by Boring Brick Meaning
Song Released: 2009
Brick by Boring Brick Lyrics
Somewhere too far for us to find
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of a world that she's left behind
It's all about the exposure, the lens, I told her
The angels are all wrong now
She's ripping wings off of...

I think this song is about Hayley burying her childhood, walking away from it because her life is better now. I think she had invented a world when she was a child where her life was wonderful, and then she realized that her real life is horrible, and her fantasy world isn't real. This song connects to me because I have gone through very similar situations.

I think (and im probly wrong) that its all about her childhood. In the video you notice that Haley looks like the grownup version of the kid. Blond hair, white dress excetra. She probly had a horrible childhood. Mabe from abuse or something like that. Anyway, in the video the little kid's walking through what appears to be her dream world. Everythings perfect and troublefree. That's probly how she ascaped the abuse or whatever. The part when the video get all dark and scary is when the little girl relizes how crap her life is and there's nothing she can do about it. So she runs away from it. The little kid then falls into the 'grave' and The guy fills it with the dirt and Haley walks away. That could be her walking away from her old life and covering her childhood memeries because they were so horrible. Hope this helps.

this song is about mind control. more specifically what the CIA refers to as Monarch Programming. if you watch the vidoe its very clear.
the most obvious reference would be the butterflies all throungh the video and the little girl being dressed up like one. this type of mind control was used primarily on young girls and they would be instructed to "go to their happy place" while something traumatic was happening to them. (Verse one) the little girls who were being experimented on would have a handler who wouild usually be the one raping or beating the girl but would also be the one the one the girl trusted the most. (verse 2) they wanted them to be broken down so they could build them back up and reshape them howevver they wanted.
i'm not sure what Paramores stance is on this but the video is vividly clear, it may not have even been nintended but once you see it, it's hard to ignore. -
Basically about how as a child she made up her own life like fairytale (this is shown especially in the video) in order to escape, and now she is older she wants to forget it and get rid of it by 'burying' her fantasy castle because rather than bringing her happiness anymore it reminds her of why she made it in the first place and scares her. This could also be interpreted as her doing the same thing for someone who she knows/her friends etc. - helping them to bury their past.

It's hard for me to explain, but I think that it's about how people just make up their own fantasies because they can't stand being in the real world because it's like tragic or whatever. I don't know; you can disagree with me if you want, but I just think that' what Hayley is trying to say. I can't really interpret the chorus, but I guess like people keep digging deeper and deeper to get away from the real world and like their digging their own grave or something. Also, I guess in the end or second verse, this girl that Hayley is talk about, her fantasy or dreams are crushed. And when it says, "If it's not real you can't hold it in your hands. You can't feel it in your heart, and that's where I want to be." She wants to be in a place where it's all a fantasy and it isn't real because sometime she just can't handle life and she wants to be free, "with her head in the clouds." I'm sorry if you guys are confused. I tried my best. ;]

Hayley has said in interviews that the new album, Brand New Eyes, is like the diary of her life. What I think that this great song is about is that one's dreams turn out to be very nightmarish at times. Her fairytale (Becoming a famous rock band) has turned out to have some issues. She loves it, but it drives her crazy at times... and etc.

She lives in a fairy tale
Somewhere too far for us to find
(hayley has a friend that keeps doing drugs)
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of the world that she's left behind
(she kept doing drugs and didn't listen to anyone)
It's all about the exposure the lens I told her
The angels were all wrong now
(Heyley kept trying to help her by telling her to stop)
She's ripping wings off of butterflies
With her feet on the ground
And her head in the clouds
(she still won't listen to anyone and has given up trying to stop)
Well go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
(theyre saying that theyre going to help her with her drug problem and send her to rehab)
So one day he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
(the guy she loved found her doind drugs)
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick
(he is gonna send her to rehab)
And the clock struck 12
(everything she in visioned when she was high was a castle, so when she stopped doing the drugs, she stopped seeing her castle. basically, everything she saw when she was high disappeared the same way everything disappeared in Cinderella when the clock struck twelve)
Well you built up a world of magic
Because your real life is tragic
Yeah you built up a world of magic
(she did drugs because nothing was going well in her life)
