Pierce the Veil: Hold On Till May Meaning
Hold On Till May Lyrics
One million branches and she loves every one
Mom and dad, did you search for me?
I've been up here for so long I'm going crazy
And as the sun went down
We ended up on the ground
I heard the...

#1 top rated interpretation:Vic wrote this song about a past girlfriend/friend whos parents neglected her. She would hide up in her tree house just to see if anyone would search for her and notice she was missing.
"she sits up high surrounded by the sun, one million branches and she loves every one."
-She would hide in her tree house till late till the sun rised or set, and she had done it so many times that she "loved" the branches, if you catch my drift.
"mom and dad did you search for me? ive been up here so long im going crazy"
-her parents didnt search for her and she had spent so long up there that it would depress her and slowly drive her crazy
"as the sun went down we ended up on the ground i heard the train shake the windows you screamed over the sound and as we own this night i put your body to test with mine"
-this is basically about sex lmao
"this love was out of control 3-2-1 where did it go"
-im not sure about this bit but maybe bc she was depressed alot or was a bit careless?
"now dont be crazy yes now of course you can stay been in a touring band for going on ten years big deal i guess your offical i only said it cause i know what its like to feel burned out"
-hes letting her stay with him bc he understands how shes feeling
"it get you down weve all been there some time but tonight ill make you feel beautiful once again"
-hes telling her that shes not alone and you can really see he cares for her
"if i were you id put that away see your just wasted and thinking about the past again DARLIN YOULL BE OK"
-she doesnt know what shes doing and shes wasted as in really very drunk which is depressing her and hes telling her that itll all be ok obvi
"if you were me youd do the same cause i cant take anymore ill draw the shades and close the door everythings not alright and i would rather"
-that she feels its right if she kills herself considering the position shes in and shes tired of it all shes not alright and wants to die obvi -

#2 top rated interpretation:VIC SAID THIS:
A girl i used to date once told me that her parents neglected her as a child. She remembered climbing this tree in her backyard and hiding from them just to see if they would look for her, or even notice that she was gone. I always thought it was such a sad story and i wrote this song for her. It also talks about the ups and downs in a relationship that we’ve had recently. -

#3 top rated interpretation:This song is partly written about a young girl named Olivia who committed suicide a few years back. Every year since 2008 she would attempt suicide on the first of May. In her goodbye video, Olivia said that she "couldn't hold on till may". This definitely resembles a link and cannot be a mere coincidence. Goodbye Olivia, may you rest in peace xoxo

This song to me means that the girl hes talking about needs help and that she needs to stay strong and not let things get to you. This song reminds me of how I have been neglected by my dad, and that I have to get a hold on my depression and not let things get me down. That's really hard for me because I have been bullied and called ugly on many occasions to my face. I have attempted so many times but I just can't because I know there are people out there who need me.

Most of the people say the story is written about a friend Vic used to date, but that's already written in so many comments :D I actually think that's true, also because I watched a video on youtube a few weeks ago of Pierce The Veil performing Hold On Till May live in Dallas in 2012, Vic said he had written it for an old friend. I also think they've written it because a lot of fans tell them that they've saved their life, so I think they wanna give the fans hope to hold on, it would be kind of weird if they wanted their fans to hold on till may, so I think the title is based on this girl Olivia which is also already said in the other commetns :P

I think that "Hold On Till May" was partially written about Vic's childhood friend that would hide in treed to see if her parents would even look or notice that she is gone, and the other half of the song was about Olivia Penpraze. I think it was because if you look at her suicide video it explains how she tried to kill herself every first of May, so Pierce The Veil was trying to put out there to hold on and don't kill yourself its not worth killing yourself.
-
if i were you, i'd put that away= trying to tell her to put away her razor because self harm is wrong.
your just wasted and thinking about the past again= she's basically "wasted on thoughts" because she's thinking about what it was like to be happy and not depressed.
darling you'll be ok= im here to protect you from any bad thoughts, please stop cutting, it'll be okay..you're safe
(different singer)
if you were me, you'd do the same= if you were in my situation and if you were as depressed as i am, you would cut yourself and you would commit suicide too. -

This song is partly written about one of Vic's friends, who used to hide in trees for hours, and her parents would never come looking for her. It is also about Olivia Penpraze, who attempted suicide on the 1st May every year, until she succeeded in March, so that's where the title 'Hold On Till May' come from. This song reduces me to tears every single time I listen to it, it's so meaningful, so so many people can relate to their songs, it's what makes them such a good band.
-
I think that the song is about a girl who self harms, the song also relates to olivia and one of vic's friends who used to hide in trees to see if her parents would care that she was missing.
-
Vic has said that Hold On Till May was written about a friend that he used to have who's parents didn't care about her. He's said it at live shows before playing the song. Part of Bulls In The Bronx was written for Olivia.
-
I don't believe this song was written for Olivia, i believe this song is written about self harming. But i believe it is also about one of his friends who would hide in trees and wait to see if her parents would look for her.
-
Hold on til May and Bulls in the Brnx are both about a girl named Olivia Penpraze. After Olivia killed herself her friends messaged Pierce the Veil (because Olivia loved them) that had a link to her suicide video/note. Within it it had written that she attempted to kill herself several times on May 1st.

Actually, Pierce The Veil didn't write the song for Olivia they wrote part of Bulls In The Bronx for her though. I heard this song was for one of Vic's friends that used to hide in places (like trees) to see if her parents would care that she was missing.
-
The girl was supposed to kill herself in May but instead did in March.
