Red: Cauterize Meaning
Cauterize Lyrics
That's fine
But sometimes
The buried comes crawling back to you
You were gone, I paid your price
You left your mark, my sacrifice
This open wound where you can hide
To look away and bite the knife
Cauterize, when...
-
I interpreted this song to be referring to the image of Christ and his perspective of him sacrificing himself for us. "A thousand scars betray me oh what's another one" referring to the many people shouting for his crucifiction and Judas as well. "Am I the only one?" Referring to Jesus in the garden speaking to God questioning if its worth it as he said "Take this cup Lord if you can". The idea of cauterize is to stop bleeding or a infection of a wound. Jesus was cauterized, bleeding, burned, and broken so he could heal all the wounds and pains the sins of this world gave us. "Cauterize, I'll cauterize you" as a statement to us personally as a promise of redemption. Finally, "the proof of you is written on my skin" Referring to God being in him and living through him but him still coming to earth as a human so he could endure the pains that we endure and show we can overcome it.
