The Neighbourhood: Yellow Box Meaning
Yellow Box Lyrics
-
Personally, I think this is a song of a midlife crisis. Someone who attempted to chase what they thought were their dreams, their goals, turned into a shell of their former self—someone who can't escape their own debilitating depression and begs for a fresh start because of it. And so, he wishes 'to begin again, to start over.'
A more grim interpretation that I notice is the theme of suicide. The lyrics suggesting "I'm dying to live again, to start over" don't leave much room for interpretation in that regard.
Still, the song can have multiple meanings. It depends on how you wish to look at it. -
Yellow box is about struggling to maintain yourself alive. You already gave everything you had and still was not enough. Life put you through hell, you lost all your dreams, and the thing keeping you alive is the little flame of faith inside of you both it's slowly dying; all you can do is hope for better days, even though you know is very probable that those never come. Such an amazing work of art that represents the feeling of numbness and derealization due to depression.
