Three Days Grace: Last to Know Meaning
Last to Know Lyrics
Why didn't she tell me?
And where do I go tonight?
This isn't happening to me
This can't be happening to me
She didn't say a word
Just walked away
You were the first to say
That we were not okay
You were the first...

#1 top rated interpretation:I love this song because it has two parts to it, in my opinion.
In the beginning, his love just leaves him for no reason, leaving him in disbelief ('this can't be happening to me'). He finds out that the love between the two were fake, and that it was full of lies ('you were the first to lie, when we were not alright'). And to make matters worse, his true first love left him for someone else.
Then, the really cool transition happens and it is accompanied by a change in tone from piano to a harder rock sound, which also shows his transition in mood.
'I'll be the first to say, that now I'm okay'. This starts off a period where he has recovered from his cruel ex, and is truly moving on in his life. He realizes how bad his ex was and how it wasn't worth it to love her ('And for the first time, I've opened my eyes'). He even warns the person she left him for about her ways at the end, and how the other guy will end up being like how the ex-boyfriend was previously. It shows that the girl will continue the vicious cycle, and that it won't change.
The reason why I really love this song is that it covers both parts of someone leaving: the initial feelings and the hopeful moving on. It's a sad song, yet it's also a very hopeful song in that it shows how he's moved on, and how anyone else who felt cheated by a girl (or guy) can move on just like him. -

#2 top rated interpretation:Think outside the box. It's about his addiction to Oxy/Opioids. He about killed himself from the addiction. if you've ever been that far and drug addiction you would understand. it's his way of saying that he was displaced from the drug use. he's recovered so he is saying that he is okay but the person that picked up habit next would I there for leaving them for dead. It's not about a woman!!
-
It’s pretty self explanatory really, I have tried to look at the addiction to drug meaning as some people have said that it’s about but I don’t get it... for me this is a very sad yet simple tale of love, betrayal and all the emotions that lie between. He loved this girl and thought they were ok then out of the blue she leaves him for someone else... his sadness and betrayal turns to rage and so he commits the ultimate crime of passion but not before warning the new guy that she would have done exactly the same to him....

how much i can guess 'life starts now' is about adam's step to a new chdpter of life .where he is addictionfree and have start a new life .i think this song is about pain he had get through is life.we all love ourselves ,but he have'nt get the love from his life.he think life as female who had cheated with him .life never say a word but it gave him pain all time. and he was late to know that.according to other songs of'life starts now 'every songs are connected with life and thdt is a similar but sadder song.

Adam Gontier wrote this song shortly after he was at CAMH. He did write it about the addiction to oxycontin and how it affected his marriage. State that it was his first love and how good he first felt taking the drug, but how it later caused him pain. The song leads on as if he is speaking about a girl and another man, but it's about his ex-wife and his addiction to oxycontin and how it was what cause the divorce.

Not everything is about cutting.
-
I think it's about cutting. "You were the first to say the at we were not ok" is saying that the cuts showed that he wasn't ok. "You were the first to lie when we were not alright" is saying how you, the blade, lied to him and "made him feel better" but in fact, he wasn't alright. It was his first love. "When she left me for you, I was the last to know." Might imply that he rubbed off on his friend died from suicide. "I'll be the first to say that now I'm ok. And for the first time, I've opened up my eyes." Is explaining that now he has broken the addiction. "When she leaves you for dead, you'll be the last to know" is mentioning again that friend that died. He probably feels like it was his fault and that he rubbed off on that friend.
-
Like others have said, it has two parts. The first when he was still in shock over his ex and then the second part when he realizes that she was cruel to him and that she was wrong for him and that he hopes when she cheats on the other guy that he will go through everything he did.
-
I agree. It's the first girl he loved and he thought everything was going ok but feels very worthless when that girl leaves him without a reason and possibly goes off with someone he knows. So at the end the guy she was with was warned that eventually she'll do the same to him. I feel bad because I understand how he feels for that girl leaving him like this without a sign.

In this song he tells about his first love. For me this was my theme song and i understood it like: He loves a girls and he tought she loves him too but that girl just loved his best friend and now he tells to his best friend:And when she leaves you for dead
You'll be the last to know
For me this song its like a talking beetwen the one he loves and his best friend -
I think this song is just an explanation of a guys first love. How she betrayed him for his friend without even telling him, just by walking away from him. "She just walked away"
I have been playing this on repeat for the past few days and absolutely love this song, it's full of such meaning and emotion, it really can hit home when you have experienced something similar.
The piano for this song suits it too the core, it sets the scene more than if it didn't have it. It's just a lovely soulful song (:
