Three Days Grace: Misery Loves My Company Meaning
Misery Loves My Company Lyrics
I haven’t lost my mind
I am picking up the pieces
Of the mess you left behind
I don’t need your condescending
Words about me looking lonely
I don’t need your arms to hold me
Because misery is waiting on me
I am not...
-
I believe it was a message directed at the person who messed up his life. He does not care for this person's pity. He states "leave me in the cold" which I think he means for that person to let him live in the cold reality of the world instead of living in a false sense of comfort and security. Personally, I would prefer a cold yet truthful reality over a false sense of security and comfort. I wonder, who else feels this way?
-
Can someone tell me what he means by Misery Loves My Company?
-
I think it means that even though the ''protagonist'' in this is socially isolated from others and takes a lonesome-like life to which he repulses , he will never be truly alone as he carries with him the ''sympathetic'' misery and anguish which sort of takes care of him... in a way ..

If you watch the video, you can talk take from it that when he says "I don't need your condescending words about me looking lonely.." there's two different "couples" shown looking at him, at first they're all "happy", then they're even miserable with each other. So my personal opinion (whether I'm exactly right or not, who knows) is that he's not necessarily speaking to an ex, but possibly other people, and/everyone looking at him feeling sorry for him that while they're all "with" someone, he's "alone".
I also think the fact that they show these two couples happy, then "miserable" with each other signifies the fact that other people have turned on him, and can always turn on each other/anyone, but that misery always has and will be with him....and the parts about "picking up the PAST*(not mess)you left behind) and "not beaten down just yet", adds to the message that he always has been and will be miserable (or, misery always has been and will be with him), and he's using it as his strength.
I don't know, it's difficult to get out what I'm trying to say in actual words, I just know I've listened to this song at least 1000 times already, and hang onto every word! -
Here's how I interpret this song:
"I am in control
I haven’t lost my mind
I am picking up the pieces
Of the mess you left behind"
"Leave me in the cold, you better run away
I'm gonna dig a hole and bury all the memories we've made"
"I don’t need your condescending
Words about me looking lonely
I don’t need your arms to hold me
'Cause misery is waiting on me"
Someone really messed up his life, and now that person sees his sadness, feels sorry for him and is trying to "comfort him". He doesn't want this person's pity, he needs this person out of his life and forgotten because he chooses to accept his life the way it is.
"I am not alone
not beaten down just yet
I am not afraid of the voices in my head
Down the darkest road something follows me
I am not alone
Cause misery loves my company"
He's not dependent on this person anymore, and relies on his emotions instead to feel less "alone" and to get through life, because he'll always have them no matter how bad life gets.
So, yeah, it could be about a breakup but there's also more to it. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

"Misery Loves My Company" is a song about breaking up a relationship. In this instance, the one doing the breaking up, feels constrained and broken by the relationship. He or she ends it, saying, "I don't need your arms to hold me." After leaving the relationship, he or she sets off down a dark road - this is figurative, of course. He or she is alone, technically, except that there is one thing following him or her - misery. He or she is not afraid of the voices in his or her head, not afraid of the dark or of being alone, because misery will always be there - probably more than the person he or she broke up with. After the breakup, he or she now feels in control of his or her own life again, but he or she is not beaten down enough to make a full recovery from the constraining relationship.
