Three Days Grace: Wake Up Meaning
Wake Up Lyrics
I'm not sober all the time
You bring me down at least you try
Do we see this eye to eye?
I don't want you
I must be running out of luck
Cause you're just not drunk enough to fuck
And now I've had it up to here
I don't,...

Yeah I agree about the abusive relationship assumption ,I truly think that Adam is expressing the way we all have that type of relationship where one person does all the heavy lifting and the other just leaves and then the hurt that stays with that person or it could be like one person is telling to the other to like you know wake up because the person changed for the other and the person wants to get their attention, something like that

A man is in an abusive relationship with a woman. The abuse goes both ways. He makes an effort to change, but she just leaves, leaving him heartbroken. He wants her back even though she hurt him in so many ways. He promises to himself that he’s a “changed man”, but never gets the chance to reconcile because she’s truly gone. She was never truly there for him to begin with, despite his feelings for her. Hence the lyrics “where the hell are you when I need you?” The man put so much time and energy into the relationship, but lets it slowly slip away due to his drinking and growing apathy that makes him take her for granted. He wishes that he could fix things even thought it’s obvious that they weren’t meant to be. He ruminates on the relationship even though it seems that she doesn’t care at all. He fell in love with a toxic person and it brought out his own toxic nature. In my opinion, the male in this song is the primary victim, being abused and emotionally neglected to the point where he blames himself entirely for what went wrong in the relationship, even though she contributed to the chaos more than he did. “I’m not angry all the time. You push me down, at least you try. Until we see this eye to eye... I don’t want you”. The harsh reality is that he does want her, despite knowing that loving such a person is the reason for his anguish. He tries to convince himself and her that he doesn’t, but it’s just a coping mechanism for his true feelings. He loves her despite all the pain they’ve both caused each other. Despite all the pain she’s put him though. Shit really hits home for me...
