30 Seconds To Mars: The Kill Meaning
Song Released: 2006
The Kill Lyrics
Laugh it all off in your face
What would you do? (Oh, oh)
What if I fell to the floor
Couldn't take this anymore
What would you do, do, do?
Come break me down
Marry me, bury me
I am finished with you
What if...
-
I think it is about him realising that he is pretending to be someone else for another person, all he wanted was to have that person in his life and he has finally realised he doesn't like the false person he has become and he is finally done with pretending.
-Goldie -
I know nobody else may feel this, but...
to me, it is a parent kid thing. my mom kind of has this set thing on me being friends with certain people (she goes for preps, whereas I'm scene) and she treats me like I'm five
she gives me no room for independance
so it is a song to me saying "mom, I'm NOT five years old and I can pick my own friends. I know you want certain things for me, and I get that. but nobody is perfect and I can do things on my own. I can be my own person."
it also says ""I'm done with this, all I wanted was to make you happy." QUOTE 'I've finally found myself, fighting for a chance, I know now this is who I really am' " mom I know who I am. I can't change me to be you, this is who I want to be, and who I am. accept that"
that may or may not be yours but it is mine
thanks! -
Whoever said they were gay do you have proof because as far as I am concerned you are the only gay one here unless Michael Jackson is on here looking for you.

I was reading the interpretations(im from Puerto Rico so I'm not that good in english)
One of the interpretations did say about a girlfriend it sounds like it but lets not lets keep in the fight w/ourselves.is not that hard actiolly you just have to listen or just read the lyrics at the same time your actiolly listening to the songs is rock so when it goes up(the sound)is usually because is mad.Chek my interpretation.(actiolly the person that said that the person that said the thing about being about a girlfriend is a loser the one that said it good for just putting what it thinks but I searched the lyrics in the song all it said is bury me at the end that whispers it says
What if I wanted to break...? (You say you wanted more, what are you waiting for? (MARRY ME) I'm not running from you...)What if I, what if I, what if I... (bury me, bury me) -
To me the song is final pain-filled cry to the person that he urequietedly loves. But it could also be a metaphor for a battle within himself. You see that especially in the video when the two Jareds are together.
-
The Video is based on the film , The Shining. The song to me, shows someone going insane because of the changes he has to make for someone else (the girlfriend).
-
Well,The first interpretation is 100% true, but if you have seen the video it was based on a movie and book by Stephen King named The Shinning. It's about a hotel named the Stanley Hotel. It is supposed to be haunted. In the video you see Jared Leto typing. That is what happened in the movie, the writer went crazy. So the song did have something to do with The Shinning.

"You say you wanted more what rare you waiting for I'm not running from you"
I think it's about a guy is with this woman who he likes and every thing is going alright until she wants to change him into something he's not. He is getting mad and he is tired of it. He is through but she loves him and he is convincing her about how he feels. -
Ok first of all to all those who think Jared Leto is gay.... who really cares... does it make a hell of a difference anyway... whats wrong with people who are gay...are you all a bunch of homophobes or something? I don't think it changes the song meaning at all if he is straight or gay so why worry about it?
The song has a different meaning to everyone...isn't that the whole point of this website... for people to share their interpretations of the songs??
Although I think that we can all agree that this is an awesome song :) -
Many are wrong, but however don't feel bad whatever you think it is go with it, its great seeing other peoples interpretations.
Loved the girlfriend/boyfriend one! at first that was what I thought it meant, but nope I was wrong.
Wasn't until later I delved deeper to realise, hang on it's about yourself.
Come break me down, bury me bury me - bury yourself, iam finished with you - I am finished with the way I think iam and now I'm finished, I want to be who I really am. is also the next set of lyrics.
So in fact this song is about fighting within yourself to find who you really are, and finding it is all for the better.
Provehito In Altum, to the keepers of the gate we await.... -
This song is about facing your self. basically it's saying that everyone has two personalities, one is what they show on the outside and the other is the person they realy are even if they are unconscious of it. This man tried to find his inner personality and didn't like what he found. In this song it is like him and his real self are talking to eachother. To make it easier because even I got confused I will call him him1 and his inner self him2. It starts with him2 telling him that he finds him amusing (he's laughing at him) then him1 says that he can't take it anymore, showing that hi2 is realy bad. Him1 says come hurt me now, I am finished with you (sign of giving up). what if I didn't give up trying to save myself, how would you anticipate that? him2 playing with him saying you wanted to find yourself, well I'm right here, why are you stopping. He1 says again that he has given up and then tells him2 to look at what he's putting him through all I wanted was to find myself, I didn't expect it to be you. Him1 tried to change myselfself but it was futile, I finally understand that this is how I realy am! he's basically saying that if this is him then life isn't worth living. He finaly found himself(no inperticular meaning) he was fighting for a chance to change himself and live on but now he knows that's how he is and will always be.
seriously this is the true meaning of it. well you can't realy explain it, it kinda comes to you but this is as close as your gonna get -
"What if I wanted to fight Beg for the rest of my life "
Your true self is sending you messages that you are not living the life you are supposed to be living. Begging you to wake up, to awaken and to just be yourself.
"You say you wanted more What are you waiting for? "
"Bury me, bury me "
"I tried to be someone else But nothing seemed to change "
You are looking for your identity outside of you, in things, relationships, titles, meeting society's expectations of you, have good grades, get a good job, make lots of money, be good looking, get married, have children, own a car, buy a house, go on trips,...retire...You find your identity in the labels people put on you, their expectation of you and the roles that you play. What you did not know is that by doing this you buried yourself, losing yourself more and more to the material and transient world. You got the things you wanted and you are still not satisfied...still unhappy. What you don't know is that what you wanted was not out there, but in you. It was you. Know who you are, not your body, not your mind, not even your spirit. You are beyond all that. You alone are enough. -
First of all this song has nothing to do with a girlfriend or being gay, or not exactly going insane. It is a battle between yourself, on the side you know, and the unknown or unwanted. If you have the "A beautiful lie" CD/DVD then you know the real meaning. That is why there is a bunch of twins, they are dancing with themselves. It is a fight of overcoming what you are or were. Drug addicts and alcoholics for example can really use this song to help them overcome the person they do not want to be.
-
I think that it is about going insane because the video is like "the shinning" which is a horror film about a hotel making a man go mad. The lyrics also support this evidence "what if I wanted to break"
