Alan Walker - Faded Meaning
Song Released: 2015
Faded Lyrics
[Verse 1]
You were the shadow to my light
Did you feel us?
Another star, you fade away
Afraid our aim is out of sight
Wanna see us, alive
[Pre-Chorus 1]
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Where are you...
-
I think that the song is about a girl who has broken up with somebody and when they break up it hurts her more because it mattered more to her then her partner and without him she feels faded and lost without him and wants to know if he cared at all for her and the "monsters running wild inside of me"is all of the whatifs that she has about what she could have done differently(this is just my personal interpretation)
-
Meaning the girl is missing the guy and remembering what they had, and she would want to find the place like no other atlantis, and blah blah blah
-
Great song !!! Just listened to it instead of interpreting... But it's about a girl who realises that she has lost her happiness as she left her man
-
i feel like its about how she loved him and wants him back and trys to fight to find him
-
I think his lover fades into the darkness.
-
I think it speaks about a forbidden love. Where one person is lost living a life they are supposed to conform to. But wanting so badly to run away and be with the one who holds there heart.
They love that person so much they are lost without them. They dream about being together but know it’s not possible It’s a fantasy.
Love so true and deep it has to be pushed deep inside and lost like Atlantis.
But that’s just my interpretation. -
I would not be surprised if the song is a metaphor for heroin addiction, the persons faded relative to their former self, and someone they love is out of reach as a result.
-
It means all about twinflame songs, person who looking for him twinflame , mostly twinflames happens this kind of emotions, feelings, love, sorry i know english little so cant explatain well
-
A thoughtful song but...
But if you left your family then question if it was "right or wrong," your are a very selfish individual. Likely, you only question if it was "right or wrong," only because something in your life didn't go as planned. Had it gone the way you planned, you wouldn't be here and wouldn't "question" anything.
I pray for the family you left. I hope the man you left found a lady who cherishes him and who treats your children as if its her own making you nothing more than a horrible "faded" memory. -
I see a girl (this is all from personal experience) as she decides to run away, leaving her family behind. She feels her whole world seeming to fade away, lost in her own mind. The line that says "the monsters' running wild inside of me" refers to her no longer knowing if what she did was a smart idea or not. Feeling scared and alone, as the sun sets, she runs home.
-
It is about a relationship between you and your creator (God). When you've found him you're faded.
-
It's about a woman leaving her man, realising her mistake and regretting that she left him.
A very sad song.. :/
Here's my analysis:
You were the shadow to my light
Did you feel us
Another start
You fade away
Afraid our aim is out of sight
Wanna see us
Alive
When they where together she felt like the better person and he was only a shadow of her, yet he still followed her closely like light and shadow do.
She asks him, did he understand how she felt about them at the time?
They probably half broke up and tried again, "another start". But she never felt alive when they where together then, and in her mind he fades away, realising she dont want to continue with him.
Where are you now
Was it all in my fantasy
Where are you now
Were you only imaginary
Split meaning here from after the breakup; "where are you now" is repeating through the song, and here she realises she misses her man, wondering about him.
Interlaced are her thoughts and doubts, her fantansy and imaginary dreams of what she really wanted, back when they where together.
Atlantis
Under the sea
Under the sea
Where are you now
Another dream
The monsters running wild inside of me
"Atlantis", reference to the rich continent/kingdom who was lost under the sea, symbolically represents the loss of her man, whom she realises was very valuable to her.
She then wonders if he now has started a new life with somebody else, "another dream". But she dont know, and "The monsters running wild" is here worries/regrets that he might have.
I'm faded
So lost
Compare to the "shadow to my light", mentioned in the beginning of the song, now she is faded instead, meaning she is alone feeling lost after the breakup.
The next section conencts nicely:
These shallow waters, never met
What I needed
I'm letting go
A deeper dive
Eternal silence of the sea
I'm breathing
Alive
It's about an earlier time from when they where together, where the "shallow water" represents the relationship not being enough for her, maybe she wanted to love. But at the time she didn't want to give it a try, a "deeper dive", and instead let it go.
"Eternal Silence of the sea" means she hade problems with her man that she felt where suffocating her, and now those problems will be gone for ever, "eternal silence". Leaving him she feels lightened, alive and can breath again.
But the song is not about a good breakup, of course. Further down, these last rows are so important:
Under the bright
But faded lights
You set my heart on fire
Where are you now
Where are you now
"Bright faded lights" is a symbolic of here memories of him that is now faded, but still bright. She here realises that he was the one she wanted, her heart is set on fire for him.. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

Its a song about dealing with mental health. The monsters that run inside of me. Where r u now refers to losing the persona that existed b4 mental health issues struck. Faded refers to losing a grip on reality and being less a person than b4. It is lamenting the loss of a fomer self and the constant struggle to regain lucidity.
