Black Veil Brides: Sweet Blasphemy Meaning

Album cover for Sweet Blasphemy album cover

Sweet Blasphemy Lyrics

Through sadness you have taught us to be one with the crowd
Unveil the sacred order, hymns of falling down
You told the greatest stories, of love and bleeding crowns
But to the sick and hungry, you can not be found

We are young and we are...

After reading the first several lines of drivel, I skipped the rest of the trolling and decided to put the final nail in the coffin. For all the ignorant "army" members, just because Andy is atheist and uses religious symbolism doesn't mean you have to pattern your entire life around Andy's theological choice and immediately strike out at all religion. To be honest there's nothing wrong with Christianity. It's just some of the followers that ruin it. Even Ghandi said "I have nothing against Jesus Christ, just his followers". It's called allegory. That word is even in the song. It's using one thing to represent something else. At this stage in his writing he used a lot of religious influence. Now he's kinda killed the buzz. No offense to you die hard fans but STWON and the rebels EP sucked horribly. I'm hoping their next album will be their redemption but with coffin, it's not looking too bright. And this song isn't just about beig yourself, it's about changing the order of things. Influencing others to stop going downhill and caring about petty things like popularity and what's hot. Btw saying BVB isn't mainstream, kinda makes me doubt that you're passing all your classes. But then again I've noticed most "army" members are half retarded 12 year old girls that consider a7x to he death metal. But anywho, that's my piece, wanna disagree? Troll? Step up and say it to ma faysh. Send your hate mail to random_email_name@yahoo.com

I think i talks about in the first line that the whole community and people show us or make us grow up to be like them they show us their religion, You told the greatest stories, of love and bleeding crowns But to the sick and hungry, you can not be found
meaning, the church, the people that believe tell us of a man who loved us, who died for us with the bleeding crown he was killed but yet to all of us who are put to the side, u never hear our cries. We are young and we are strong
Through strength in self we become
Something more than they can be
I raise my heart and sing means during that time of loneliness we grow stronger something more than that person hurting us i raise my heart and sing ur heart is representing you and sing is ur cry, ur roar ur scream of success. That I wont believe this lie
I know there's something more inside, it means we won't accept that we are going to be defeated or less than them
Darkness is all you see, this is reffering to the person hurting u, all he sees is him hurting u and he's blind he can't see that u have done nothing
This is our Sweet Blasphemy, our sweet blasphemy, blasphemy means a disrespect for religion which our religion shows to be equal, but no one is like that sweet, is just a word in their meaning that this is what we deal with every day and our religion hurt after hurt Silence the crooked holy, again reffering to the evil unchain the tied and bound, this means let us be let the people being hurt to be who they want to be whether they be straight gay fat skinny emo goth skaters whateber
No time for allegory, one true reigning sound, this means we shouldnt wait for change we need to act instead of just talking of it
Unite the lonely mourning, a simple servant now, this means for us all to unite all the people who were hurt unite and simple servant now meaning we all always stay away instead of uniting, that is why we are weak
We are the only glory, hear us screaming loud meaning we are the right ones the ones who are innocent we have not commited a sin but only the sin of being ourselves and hear us screaming loud meaning hear us hear our cries hear our reason, We are young and we are strong
I raise my heart and sing! same meaning as before :) the rest is a repeat of the thing i just said :) PLEASE READ MY INTERPRETATIONS I THINK U'LL FIND IT MORE ACCURATE

No, this is not about religion. Andy has said himself that although he uses religious metaphors, he does not incorporate religion itself into his songs.

This song is supposed to be directed towards the people who try to conform other people and tell them that what they love is wrong. But he says that their perception of normal is not what he believes in. It's like, even if what someone is doing is wrong in your eyes, it still makes them happy. Hence the 'sweet blasphemy'.

That's just what I think. Don't take the lyrics so literally. Read between the lines.

I think it's about going against the crowd and being yourself and so in that sense it's blasphemy. "you have taught us to be one with the crowd" is in the first line of the song. That's my short and sweet interpretation.

i think it is about those really religious people who try ad push their faith on others and exclude certain people for the way they dress or whatever because they see it as evil or something god would not approve of. i think he is trying to say that what god REALLY shouldn't approve of is bullies ad people who try ad stop others from being themselves. " i wont believe his lie" to me is saying that if god does exists all he wants from you is for you to be your self and live a good life, and that when people say you have to change or be a certain way to be accept by god it is a lie. if you waked into church dressed the way andy does you would probably get kicked out i think he is just trying to say that if religion is truly about love then why does it cause so much conflict ad war. god loves you for you ad so should the rest of the world. the true meaning of religion should be acceptant and love and is what the song says to me. peace<3

Its basicly says be who you are and if your religon stops you from you for doing that then screw it. Blasphemy basicly means standing up or defiying God in Cathloic religion. Andy Biersack went to Cathoic School he whole life yes he is now an atheist he basicly doesnt believe in religion he will joke about it and he believes in God and everything. So this song and Andy arnt satainic and evil like everyone tends to think.

Ok andy doesn't sing about any thing religious he's not against relgion this song is just about how everybody is told that fitting in is good and if you don't your a freak (this is the part where he goes i wont believe this lie) he made this song to let all his fan know that they are ok just the way they are plus he wants fans to know that they always have someone who's not telling them to be one with the crowd

I happen to interpret that this song is about fitting in and standing up for your beliefs despite what people tell you. "Through sadness you have taught us, to be one with the crowd." People bully, tease, and taunt those who are different, essentially teaching them through sadness and suffering that it's not okay to be unique. That you must fit in, and "be one with the crowd." "Unveil the sacred order, hymns of falling down." I see this line to represent the fact adults tend to turn a blind eye, and you have the need to open their eyes, and people tend to give sympathy, but it's hollow, and what they say is trite. "You told the greatest stories, of love and bleeding crowns." Many people talk of helping others, of broken hearts and helping to heal them. "But to the sick and hungry you cannot be found." But when there's true people in need, you're absent. You say you love to help, but you're to shallow to actually do any good. The pre chorus explains itself, those who are used, abused, and terrozied can overcome anything, we're all strong and perfect in our own ways, and we will resist all those who try to discourage. The chorus is really easy to understand too. "That I won't believe this lie, I know there's something more inside. When darkness is all you see, this is our Sweet Blasphemy." We aren't going to believe what the people tell us, and we know there's something inside us that can stand against the opression. And when we feel we're at wits end... well, we have our ironic put-downs of what we believe. "Silence the crooked holy, unchain the tied and bound." I believe this to represent all those who believe they're better than the rest, the "crooked holy." They deserve to be silenced, put in their place because in reality, they aren't better than the rest. Especially if they poke fun at others because of how they act or how they express themselves. "No time for allegory, one true reigning sound." Allegory is the use of characters or figures to represent abstract principles. I believe him to be hinting that today, celebraties are used to show values that are wrong, but we percieve them as right. The one true reigning sound, being music that actually tells people the truth, and tries to show them vitrtues that are true. "Unite the lonely mourning, a simple servant now." Those who are disgraced must band together, to fight against those who are unjust, for we're stronger and more easily understood now. "We are the only glory, hear us screaming loud." This line is pretty obvious. The ones who are made to look like fools are the right, and we need, and deserve to be heard.
Now, keep in mind this is only my interpretation, that we need to stand by what we belief, and stand by ourselves. We need to be heard, and don't need to be pressured. I hope this helps you understand the song better, and even possibly aquire your own interpretation of it. ^^

It could mean alot of different things. Im a christian, but I like the song, even though no one can truly say what it means. I say interpret the song the way you want to hear it. The way you would want the message to come across to someone else, should you introduce the song to them. Until someone can get you the spot-on meaning, its all you can do.

people say he is an athiest and i highly doubt that. I think when he was bullied he was told that god can help you buthe never got help. Andy is a smart guy and no smart guy would make a song about someone they don't beleive in. Blashphemy is a act against god, so he basicly says when your all alone and no none is there to help you, this is your sweet act against god

I think that this song is talking about fitting in, and also other obstacles in life 'to be one with the crowd.' there may also be some religious views in this song if you look at it that way, but i am atheist. if you think down deeper into this song, 'i won't believe this lie' some people think that the only way to be happy is to go with what everyone else is doing. or their parents force them to become someone they're not, by choosing their clothes, music, etc. 'become something more than they can be' to me that means we can go farther doing what we want with our lives and not follow and be just like everyone else, and in my opinion it also means that since we are going to be who we want to be, and not make others choose who we are, we will unite and stand up to people that try and tell us otherwise,we just have to have the strength to push through everyone who tries to hold us down, when all we see is darkness and think there is no escape, there is something more inside us that can keep us going, we just need to look deep and know that this is our life to live, we can't live our lives trying to make everyone else happy when we aren't even happy, that's why we are here individually, and we all have different challenges that we have to face in life.'We are young and we are strong' people are usually really judgemental throughout school, that's why i think this is about fitting in and also just going on with life even though its tough and what not because even if you are young, you are also strong. so just fight for who you want to be and who you are, dont try to live your life being someone you're not or trying to please everyone else when you are unhappy. I believe that, this is the message Andy Sixx is trying to send with this song.. <3

it has to do with not conforming to one "type" in Christianity, you HAVE to do certain things, he's saying, no, you don't have to do anything(" i wont believe this lie, there's something more inside")

Since Blashpemy means talking bad about God or religious things at first i thought he was talking about him bein atheist "that i wont believe this lie" i thought that God and things like that were all lies "throught strength in self we become something more than they can be" i thought it was like we dont need Him to be happy or strong or whatever that only ourselfs we are strong but i think that this is not right?? However it may be i am a Christian and i love this song no matter what nothing says i cant listen to it.
