Knives and Pens Lyrics

Alone at last, we can sit and fight.
And I've lost all faith in this blurring light,
But, stay right here we can change our plight.
We're storming through this despite what's right.

One final fight, for this tonight...
Woah...
With knives...

This song is about self-harm (knifes) and writing to get through tough times (pens)
It is saying that even though you may feel like crap and that no one cares about you, there is still someone out there who is thinking of you. It is saying that cutting your self is not the solution to your problems and that you will feel better if you write down how you feel instead of letting it fuel your misery. It is encouraging you to seek out the things deep inside of you that hurt you and let it all out.

And this is from past experience, ive been through the knifes and pens phase multiple times over and it is not an easy one to be in so if you have to choose between knifes and pens, please choose pens.

and for all of you who are there now, stay strong, I believe in you.:)

Ok well Andy was tormented a lot as a kid, he was called "emo" "fag" etc. and well he had the choice between cutting himself (knives) or writing poetry/songs(pens). Andy chose pens hence Black Veil Brides... I know how it feels to be treated differently because you are different from everyone else...I tired knives, its not worth it....Pens are definitely the way to go :)

This song has to do with the choice of cutting yourself (which can/will kill you) or writing your expressions through Poetry, stories, Songs, Ect. It's also narrated by the main character.

"Alone at last, we can sit and fight.
And I've lost all faith in this blurring light,"
This is basically saying that the main character in this song ((let's say it's a guy.)) is alone with his thoughts and mind, and how he' debating over his choice of writing down his expressions or cutting himself. The Second line I think is referancing to the main character loosing what was left with his faith in god because of what's happening to him.
"But stay right here we can change our plight.
We're storming through this despite what's right."
He's telling his mind to stop leaning towards cutting yourself and that he can change the path they where going to go on, and that he's going to debate this topic even though he already knows what the right path to go on is.

"One final fight, for this tonight.
    Woah...
With knives and pens we made our plight."
It's saying that even though that everyday he possible debated cutting himself or writing about it that he wants to do it one last time and that with his choices he made his two paths he can go on.

"Lay your heart down the ends in sight.
Conscience begs for you to do what's right."
He's saying that he chose to cut himself and that if continues doing it it might kill him and the second line basically says everything on it's own, that you're concience nows that writing would be the better thing to do and that it's safe too.

"Everyday it's still the same dull knife,
Stab it through and justify your pride."
He's saying that everyday he'd cut himself with the same knife and it's getting dull now, and that he's telling himself that he should keep cutting himself to make his pride feel better about its self.

"One final fight, for this tonight.
    Woah...
With knives and pens we made our plight.
    Woah..."
He's going to debate choosing cutting or writing again.
"And I can't go on without your love, you lost, you never held on.
We tried our best, turn out the light,
    Turn out the light."
He's saying he can't go on without his concienes help with it because it's the only thing that cares for him and that now it's deserting him because he' ignoring it. He's saying that he tried cutting but it didn't turn out that well so he chose writing and it was a good choice so he can stop debating the two choices.

"One final fight, for this tonight.
    Woah...
With knives and pens we made our plight.
    Woah...
And I can't go on without your love, you lost, you never held on.
We tried our best, turn out the light,
    Turn out the light."
    Repeat from above.

Its about choosing your own path, of self harm or turning your hurt into something better for you, and others. 'With knifes and pens we made our plight' The knifes is self harm, and pens as creation. The path Andy(Lead singer) took was pens, creating music instead of harm.

I don't really know. But here is my opinion on this song. It is battling your depression between choosing letting your feelings out by writing (pens) and not by self-harming (knives) This song chooses if Andy has a choice of knives or pens. I do not know really but I think my opinion may be right :)

It is between self harming (knives) and writing it down (pens)... the person will choose one... in the video... when the boy got his notebook back... he took a pen and wrote something down... who knows what he wrote... but he wrote instead

This song is about the choice that you have between harming yourself and writing down your feelings. I'm not one of those who self-harm themself so I couldn't understand how they feel but what I can understand is that writing our feelings helps a lot. Do the right thing (writing instead of self-harming), and you will feel better and never forget, you're not alone.

Well I'm on this site for many reasons mostly my friend asked me if I knew what it meant I told him I did so I looked it up and now I want to make a suggestion/summary. Knives is for cutting away the pain and pens to right it all away and that is what I am doing now in hopes that it that it will help. This is for the type of person that does not have the guts or to do worse. I'm glade that I don't have any guts but I want you guys and gales to know people care I might not know you but I care I know how it feels.

This song is about the choice of expressing yourself through cutting or by writing poetry, songs, drawing ect. Andy was bullied as a kid and he obviously chose pens as knives are not worth it. It's basically saying put the blade down and telling people that there are better options than that.

This song means that you can cut (knives) or you can write (poetry) and this song is saying that this is not going to last your whole life and you will get through it if you try and if you want to.

This song is basically what it sounds like from the title.

You can either create (Pens) or destroy (Knives)... Being bullied can push people to extremes and cause self harm so the song means you have a choice to either give yourself wounds, or use that pain to create something beautiful!

Andrew was bullied as a child through his teen years. Even now people still bitch at him and his music, calling him an emo and faggot. But the song shows that instead of selfharming, he chose to speak his mind through lyrics and poetry. I don't know if this is the REAL meaning of the song. I might be completely wrong.

It means being judged to the point of cutting (knifes) and writing a sucide note(pens) but being able to pull through it even if you fell no one loves you (cant go on without your love you never held on) and having one fight between life or death.

One final fight for this tonight. With knives and pens we made our plight.
< They want to stop the horrible self harming and substitute that with them writing their feelings and thoughts.>

Andy being bulliede for his apperance and interests had to choose between cutting and suicide or writting. He obviously chose writting. "one final fight for this tonight" i think is that there is one more fight against the demons inside your soul and you will win choose pens not knives. Once you choose knives (lose) you can't go back its permanent you have scars forever and if you choose pens (win) you will have something to share with the world. Please if you are battling with a choice similar choose pens not knifes please please
