Blink-182: Anthem Meaning
Anthem Lyrics
Run out the back door
He's passed out on the floor
Third time, been caught twice
Forgive our neighbour Bob
I think he humped the dog
But good things come to those who wait
Cause she laid me
And mom and dad...

#1 top rated interpretation:One of the most important Blink 182 songs. The first verse and whatnot, yes is in reference to some specific party Tom went to. BUT. There is an HUGE underlying message in this song. It is what it is, an Anthem. It sums up a lot of what Blink's material discusses. It's about being raised in a middle-lower class neighborhood by hypocrite parents. Being dragged through divorce, being yelled at by teachers and maybe, being a little pissed off about it all. Punk rock music is largely about the youth. Blink 182 speaks for the youth throughout their material. It's a big middle finger from the youth to the parents. The chorus says it all: 'You don't belong, you left the kids to carry on. You planned their fall'. Tom even had to go as far as to spell it out plainly in Anthem Part II by saying: 'If we're f*cked up, you're to blame'. Take it for what it is. Blink 182 are great artists.

This one's simple.
It's about how parents seem to control a kid's life and how much fun they have
and how the kids try to get around it. -
No, actually Tom himself said this was about a party in San Diego and things basically got out of hands ('hes passed out on the floor').
DDD -
This not about parties, it's about parents and them grounding you, basically saying kids don't get a chance to say what they want and not being able to stand up to the stupid parents

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
