Album cover for Lose Yourself album cover

Lose Yourself Lyrics

Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted-One moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?

His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's...

I think the song is about Eminem telling everyone of his fans to take oppurtunities, don't miss them because you will regret it.

This is a song about a man that could few shots in life. He suffers from manic depression and sometimes writes things like how he is going to drop bombs. maybe this guy will get his shot, maybe not.

This song is clearly about his life and the opportunity he had to his ticket to stardom, however to truly understand the text of this song you have to watch 8 mile; seeing as how it is what has inspired this song to be created. It is also created to inspire the audience and give them a message.

I need to watch 8 mile to be able to analyse this text further.

No more games, I'ma change what you call rage
Tear this motherfucking roof off like 2 dogs caged
I was playing in the beginning, the mood all changed
I been chewed up and spit out and booed off stage
But I kept rhyming and stepwritin the next cypher
Best believe somebody's paying the pied piper
All the pain inside amplified by the fact
That I can't get by with my 9 to 5
And I can't provide the right type of life for my family
Cause man, these goddam food stamps don't buy diapers
And it's no movie, there's no Mekhi Phifer, this is my life
And these times are so hard and it's getting even harder
Trying to feed and water my seed, plus
Teeter totter caught up between being a father and a prima donna
Baby mama drama's screaming on and
Too much for me to wanna
Stay in one spot, another day of monotony
Has gotten me to the point, I'm like a snail
I've got to formulate a plot fore I end up in jail or shot
Success is my only motherfucking option, failure's not
Mom, I love you, but this trailer's got to go
I cannot grow old in Salem's lot
So here I go is my shot.
Feet fail me not cause maybe the only opportunity that I got

    [Hook]

You can do anything you set your mind to, man

What does this part of the song mean?

Many times songs do not have "meaning", this songs meaning all reflects back to the movie. Human nature makes us want to find reason and meaning to what ever excites our senses. Sometimes when you read too much into a song, you lose the intent and entertainment aspect of it.

I have been in the industry for 30-years, mostly in production.

Eminem puts a piece of his self, of his life in every song he gets involved in, whether he wrote the lyrics or not. His emotion and angst is real and is what makes him who he is, it gives him his edge and grittiness that makes him huge success.

Don't read more into this song then there is, otherwise you will lose the true reason and meaning of the song.

"Lose yourself" song's lyrics tell you the story and history of the character in 8 Mile, B. Rabbit, with the first verse summing up much of the plot of the movie.

basically about getting the fame that hes always wanted, but does have a cheeky new world order referance slid in. but thats the only illuminati bit in the whole of the song.

This is like a summary of the movie 8 mile. Em's character was called Rabbit and Mekhi Phifer played his friend. In the movie he "chokes" during a rap. This is about him earning his fame. He lived in a trailer with his mom and did end getting booed off stage. Basically, watch the movie. And stop with the new world order stuff you guys saying that need to just shut up.

I think this song is about you only got one change to do something in life so don't screw it up. "He goes home and barely knows his daughter", I think that means that he screwed up in life, had a kid and he's trying to turn his life around so he can make his kid have a better life than him.
